Um no... just, no....
I mean, I would love to bond with some dolphins, but there's no way in hell I'd have my baby in the ocean. Way too many things could go wrong.

People who don't need to be having children in the first place, that's who's considering this

It seems like a great way to guarantee your child is ambidextrous.
Or ensure that you and your newborn are attacked by a group of dolphins.
Either way it sounds like a winning idea.

Wtf. People are so dumb.
The only thing that sounds nice is living in Hawaii for a few months.

I'm so confused. Who thinks this is evenly remotely a good idea? Dolphins are kind of assholes, in case anyone is unaware! They just look sweet.

"Research sufficient for us and experience since 1976 has shown that dolphins are able to improve or heal a wide variety of conditions including depression, autism, Down’s syndrome, cerebral palsy, and microscopically. See: http://www.planetpuna.com/dp.htm Underwater births in the Black Sea have been done for some 30 years and have shown that the children born in the water with the dolphins develop 6 months faster over their first six months, have perhaps 150 grams more brain weight and are ambidextrous."
Uhm....

I just can't stop laughing at the article - for real?! This is a serious piece?! Wow, just wow....

For some reason when I read the title of this thread I imagined dolphins catching the baby like a midwife would.

@Mrs Hedgehog: i just skimmed the paper and the author said that after a swim with a dolphin where the dolphin sent directed sound waves at him, that his neck which had been in pain for 30 years, was healed. uh.....
blogger / kiwi / 588 posts
@simplyfelicity: I should have waited to see this after work. I am currently in my office trying to stifle my laughter!

@Mrs Hedgehog: Sounds legit.
So here's my question...I went swimming with dolphins when I was 6 weeks pregnant. Does that mean my son is ambidextrous every other leap year?

@Mrs Hedgehog: HEAL Down Syndrome? Like just make it go away? Okay.......
grapefruit / 4355 posts
@Rainbow Sprinkles: Didn't you know that dolphins can change your chromosomes?!?

I want to know who the first person was that said, ya know, Imma give birth in the water with dolphins. Who comes up with this stuff?????
blogger / kiwi / 588 posts
Do you think the dolphins can use echolocation to ease contractions? I mean if they can rid people of 30-year-old neck pain...anything's possible right?

I have my 30-week OB appointment tomorrow. So tempted to bring this in and request it for my birth plan. We are thousands of miles from the nearest dolphins outside of aquariums!
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
@Finfan: Yes. This is my new birth plan. I wonder what the midwives will say when I bring in this article....
I just don't get it. I mean...water birth, sure. Swimming with dolphins, sure. But together? WHAT ABOUT THE SHARKS?
pear / 1503 posts
Yeah, um, DH and I are divers with over 250 dives each. No way in hell does this sound like a good idea. Dolphins are animals. And animals are unpredictable.
grapefruit / 4321 posts
@Finfan: who says you can't deliver in a tank at the aquarium!!??
cantaloupe / 6634 posts
@Mrs. Oatmeal: I didn't think about that, especially with the blood! Yeah...no.

So I love dolphins and think they are amazing animals, but I'm not sure I want to give birth with wild dolphins around. The article says they plan on giving birth in the ocean. Is that safe?... All that salt water for the delivery and the baby? I know salt water is good for preventing infections but is it okay for labor? Do they have to be concerned about sharks since won't there be blood in the water?
Yeah, it's not for me. I am curious to hear an update to see how this goes.

@blackbird: People can deliver by water births... My nephew was born that way... But it's the salt water in the ocean that concerns me.

I'm just jealous that baby gets to check off one of my bucket list items before he/she is even a day old. I've been waiting 30 years!
@catlady: also thought it was an onion article!
pear / 1558 posts
Lol!! This is so weird! And the comments here are just as hilarious. Made my night.

@bluestriped bee: Yeah, water birth is completely safe.
But the water is supposed to be a certain temperature and clean, which the ocean isn't. Not to mention blood + sharks?!

I thought Dolphins tended to be particularly agressive toward pregnant women? Regardless this sounds like a horrible idea but I'm totally interested to hear the outcome. Hope it works out for the baby's sake!
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@bluestriped bee: yes but if you keep them under water too long, they can drown. Not like dolphins are in a shallow tub, anyways
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@simplyfelicity: OMG I just saw the picture in your original post. LOL. Mmmm baby
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@blackbird: Ah, yeah. True. I think my nephew came out with the sac still intact so they broke the sac afterwards. Yeah, I have no idea if this mom with the dolphin assisted birth will be standing on the ocean floor or floating or supported by something.
