DH sent me this article link. He's very sensitive about his role as daddy & doesn't like when dad's get shortchanged. 
Once he's finished with his OOT rotation he's going to try to get his scheduled changed so he can spend every Friday at home with our LO.
Do you or your SO get these comments? Have you made these comments?

The babysitting one has always bothered me. Why is he a babysitter if he's home with the kids? He's a parent - he's parenting!!

Did anybody ever read Matt Logelin's blog? His wife died shortly after giving birth to their daughter and he was left to raise her alone, and he got a LOT of comments about "Oh, where's mommy?" and "Daddy's babysitting today, huh?" when they were out and about.

Nope, we don't really hear these things, although both my mom and my MIL will remark on how great it is that my husband is so hands-on and involved because that just wasn't as much the norm when they had kids. Our dads were more involved than our grandfathers, and now our husbands are even more involved! It's a great trend!

Yep my husband will take you to task if you refer to him as a babysitter! He is proud he can do a better ponytail than I can and the diehard sports fan will put on Mickey during the bottom of the ninth of a tied playoff game if asked by DD.

My husband refers to himself as babysitting the kids!

Yep, we get a lot of babysitting comments. I travel for work, not a ton, but occasionally, and everyone always flips out about how DH is doing, if I've left instructions, if my mom or his mom will come to help, etc.

@erinbaderin: wow, that had to be so, so hard to hear from people!
@Adira: I have a feeling my MIL will marvel at her son's approach since she did everything when it came to the kids. My mom on the other hand who had a super dad for a husband kind of gets the feeling DH will be a baby hog.

DH solo parents more than I do and he does a GREAT job!

DH hasn't gotten any comments that I know of, but he claims he gets weird looks when he's wearing her out in public. And when we took her on a cruise he wanted to be the one to hold her as much as possible because apparently people are less comfortable coming up to him and trying to touch her than if I had her. (Still don't understand why anyone thinks it's okay to touch a stranger's baby, no matter who is holding her!)

We don't hear comments like these much... but I do think we get treated like it sometimes from my in-laws? dh is much mroe involved in parenting that his father was (his mom stayed home until dh was about 13 and his sister was 6, so they had very traditional gender roles in their home), so we hear a lot about that. there are times where I feel like mil and sil don't give enough credit to dh's parenting that drive me crazy, but that's also bc mil is very dependent on dh and I feel like I have to compete with her to get help coparenting sometimes, like if she wants dh to run a stupid errand during lo's bedtime routine

@tinyperson: My dad hated that. If people said to him, "Oh, is dad babysitting today?" He'd say, "Nope, I'm parenting."

@nana87: that would drive me up the wall if my MIL acted like a second wife. We live too far from her to do that, but there was a moment during our wedding that I though she might be dependent on DH. We were taking photos and we both had our arm around him and my goodness she held him so tight. Lol
