I am thinking about getting DD's ears pierced. She will be 4 months old this week. I asked the pediatrician about it at her 2 month appointment and they said it was fine and between 4-6 months was ideal as she will have had a couple rounds of shots but not be playing with her ears too much yet.
Has anyone pierced their infant's ears? How old were they? Any issues? Anything you would do differently?

My mom used to work at a place that did ear piercing and she haaaaated doing babies. She said they always screamed and cried and she felt horrible 
She made me promise to never do it until my kid was old enough to ask for it herself.

I want DD's ear pierced so badly but I just can't bring myself to do it. I don't really think that the getting them pierced would bother me because I know the pain is short lived & it's no worse than her getting a shot. I'm worried about them hurting/itching while healing & her not understanding why it's bothering her. So over decided to wait until she asks/I can explain what is happening.

We're planning on getting DD's ears pierced after her next round of shots (4 months). Our pediatrician does the procedure in office with an anesthetic.

We got dd's ears pierced at her 6 month well baby visit. Her pediatrician was the one to pierce her ears and we haven't had one single problem. She's now 15 1/2 months old.

We got LOs ears pierced at 5 months at her pediatricians office. She cried for like, one minute, and was fine. She's still never touched her earrings 5 months later.

@MarieJ: @Running Elley: I asked about getting it done in the ped's office, but the doctor said that they don't do it and she thought that was an "old school" practice. I liked the idea of the doctor's office.

@NeekieRose: it's tradition with Arabs to do it within the first week.
We buy our own piercing guns because going anywhere like a tat shop or mall piercing studio with a 1 week old is asking to catch some disease

@NeekieRose: my bff did it at the pedi for her dd at 9 months? they did it crooked so she went to a claire's to get it fixed, no problems/issues.

Nope, I have decided to wait until LO asks for them. My sister did get my niece's done at Claire's when she was 7-8 months old.

Our ped recommended Claires. We waited until she was almost a year (fear of how bad she might react). It was super easy! She only cried for about half a second and mostly due to frustration of having to keep her head straight.
I know plenty of people that use Claires and did it even younger than we did.

I don't think I'd do it for my LO, but I'll admit I kinda wish my mom had done it for me when I was an infant.

@NeekieRose: Check with an ENT. Lots of them do it and numb the area. We went to another peditrician when she was 3 months. Very quick, they numbed the area and I cried more than she did. She's almost 10 months and she's never messed with them and I'm glad it's done.
