School shootings are always tragic, but it's not until you become a parent that they take on a whole new level of horror...

I can't believe that reporters are interviewing children right now!!!! Leave these poor kids alone for heavens sake.

@mrbee: I read in one article that the shooter was the father of a student?
Did anyone else hear that.
I wish LO was here with me right now.

@prettylizy: seriously. They have no business interviewing these kids!! Wtf
@Andrea: yep. I heard the same.
coconut / 8305 posts
@mrs. wagon: I almost dropped my phone just reading that! *shock*
@prettylizy: That's disgusting! No child should have to recount something like that!
GOLD / papaya / 10206 posts
@chopsuey119: I know, it sickens me. I get that they want to have exclusive information, but the greater good of these children is better served by leaving them be and not plastering their faces on national television.

What a horrible tragedy! I can't even imagine what those parents are going through...

Y'all I read one child said she was escorted past two bodies lying in blood. OMG. Don't make her retell that!

Listening to a CNN editor's recount of an interview with a parent who was in a meeting at the time of the shooting.... they heard gunshots, 3 people left the meeting to check what was going on, and only one person came back. When they evacuated the room they had to step over the two dead bodies in the hall.
She also said she heard at least 100 rounds. That's a lot of bullets. I cannot believe this is happening.

There were two shooters? I don't get it - how do you make a plan with someone? How do you go up to someone and say you are going to shoot a bunch of elementary kids and the other person says "good idea?" HOW?
pineapple / 12526 posts
@jedeve: Yeah, I just read 2 shooters, one had at least 4 weapons on him. One is dead, they are hunting for the other.
This is so awful. After 9/11, our district added "intruder" drills to our regular fire/tornado drills. We did them every month. They were meant to prepare us in the event of a terrorist attack, a school shooting, etc.
My heart goes out for those families.

II can't stop thinking about the trauma about what these kids experienced And saw. So many kids are gonna be suffering from PTSD And there so young. Breaks my heart
grapefruit / 4770 posts
They've found another body in the shooter's home. Spouse? Parent? Who??

So so awful. This is 2 towns away from my hometown
I'm sick over this.

@jedeve: i have no idea!
has anyone heard what the relation to the school might be? i keep hearing that one shooter was a 20yr old with ties to the school, but at 20 you couldn't have a child old enough to go to school there & you'd think if they were after a person that worked there they wouldn't go after children too, so what could a 20 yr old want to accomplish by doing this? i know there will be no real answer because there couldn't possibly be a good reason for this, i am still so stunned & horrified.

I read a tweet that claimed CBS reported that they were killed execution style. I can't even type that without crying.

@mrs. bird: I read somewhere less than reliable (Twitter, maybe) that he was a father at the school and had had a confrontation with the principal. I also read that the principal and school psychologist were the first ones shot. At 20, you could have been a teen parent and have a kindergartner.
It's just so awful. The oldest kids at that school are barely 10. They are all just babies.
coconut / 8305 posts
@dc yoga bee: That would be interesting to know more details for sure!
@mrs. bird: Heard it was a father of a student.
@HabesBabe: Reading this made me literally sick to my stomach
grapefruit / 4400 posts
Apparently this is the type of gun he used. I think they're meant to shoot deer? The more I read about this tragedy, the more sick I get.
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
@HabesBabe: Not that there's a right way to go about shooting innocent babies, but I hope with everything I am that turns out to be untrue. I'm sick to my stomach just thinking about it.

So sad. It's so unbelievable that he would shoot kids. What did the kids do?!?!

Now reports are saying it's the shooter's parent's dead body in the home.

I'm sitting here watching my baby girl eat her lunch. She looks so innocent. All those kids were so innocent. This just makes me sick to my stomach!

there are no words... I pray for those families and those precious, precious children. my kids are with me today and I'm not turning on the news... just too sad.

@prettylizy: I understand police needing to talk to the kids. It's shitty but I understand that importance. But any effing reporter asking a child to talk about this on camera should be fired. On the spot.
coconut / 8305 posts
@NYCaliMama: I can't watch it either. Reading it in small portions has been enough to send me into emotional overload.

18 little babies, so sick. I'm hearing he's actually 24, so could be a dad
ETA: nevermind, his mom worked at the school, and was one of the victims
grapefruit / 4770 posts
@mrs. wagon: Just saw this. People are sharing his profile pic all over fb.
blogger / watermelon / 14218 posts
Ok, the shooter's mom is among the dead and she was a kindergarten teacher at the school.
GOLD / papaya / 10166 posts
The news was covering this while I was eating my lunch in the breakroom. I just started bawling. I can't believe that all of those children were killed. Completely innocent! Who can do that????!?
OMG - the poor families!! I'm heartbroken for them, and I know my pain doesn't even come close to what they're going through. This is just horrible
grapefruit / 4770 posts
@mrs. wagon: AND some reports are that they were his mother's students! OMG
squash / 13199 posts
I have no words at all. I'm just cant even think about it. You send your child to school and someone shoots and kills them while they are in school... WHY?
They probably already have xmas gifts all wrapped up that will now remain unopened... I just cant even think about it
grapefruit / 4770 posts
@Mrsbells: That's what I told DH. They have a tree, with gifts, and excitement for the holidays. And more than anything, they had their whole lives ahead of them. To be whatever they wanted to be, go wherever they wanted to go, and to just live and experience life.
squash / 13199 posts
@dc yoga bee: Yeah its very difficult to imagine how the parents will cope with this terrible news. I just cant even imagine it without tearing up.
