I'm just glued to the news reports here at work. I just can't even fathom... just... how could someone?

@Mrsbells: Agreed, and I don't even have children. Just human compassion. I'm supposed to go to an office holiday party in an hour. How the **** am I supposed to network, be cozy, and drink and be merry? I just want to stay home out of respect for this tragedy. Seriously. And, I know being at home isn't going to do anything, but I've dedicated my career to being a DV family law attorney, so I help people for a living, and it just always strikes a cord with me. I can't keep from crying this is so awful.

So heartbreaking, I was just crying in the car listening to the coverage on the radio. ABC news is reporting that his mother was a teacher at the school and is among the dead.

This is just awful! My heart aches for the parents of those kids. I don't even know how to feel right now, angry, sad, confused. What a sick person. Ugh I'm at work and want to go get my sweet baby and just hold him.

@HabesBabe: so it's just a coincidence that he lives in NJ and us from Newtown, CT?

holy crap I feel bad for that guy with the FB page, but seriously, what are the odds?

@bpcmarj: How could he be updating his status if he was dead? Unless someone hacked into it, I guess. But there's more than one Ryan Lanza on FB.

I read on twitter that there is more than one Ryan Lanza and people have been sharing the wrong one on facebook. Don't know how true that is though

On his facebook page it says he was born in Newtown, CT and he lives in Hoboken, NJ. What are the odds?

@mrs. wagon: I know right. But, unless he was hacked, it's not him. There's other articles popping up that it's not that guy's facebook.

The NYTimes is saying that the 18 children who were killed were all students in his mother's class, that he shot her first and then shot the children.
"The gunman, who was believed to be in his 20s, walked into a classroom where his mother was a teacher. He shot and killed her and then shot 18 students in the classroom. He also shot seven other adults, and then killed himself inside the school. Various news outlets identified the shooter as Ryan Lanza. The shooting ranks among the worst in recent United States history."

someone posted this on my parenting listserv:
When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." To this day, especially in times of "disaster," I remember my mother's words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world.
