I'm also interested in this! We had a basic sling carrier for A but I rarely used it because it wasn't comfortable for me.

I have the Ergo and Beco Gemini-- you don't need an infant insert with the Beco (which is nice and not bulky). I preferred the Beco when C was younger (up to 6 months?) but the Ergo is wider and felt sturdier/comfier as she got older.

@grizz: can you wear newborns in the Tula? I was thinking of getting another beco for #3 since I'm not a fan of the ergo but it seems like the Tula has a wider base like the ergo, which I like.

I really liked my beco, but I rarely use it now. LO is 16 months. I could still use it if i wanted, but she usually just rides in a cart or stroller now.

@locavore_mama: I'm also looking at the Beco Soleil, which has an insert and can be used with older babies as well. But I haven't made a decision yet!

I love my Beco Gemini, but I didn't start using it until C was over 3 months old-- she just felt too little in it. She LOVED the Moby, though, and since it was often the only way to get her to sleep, I just used that. They say you can start using it from newborn, but it just wasn't comfortable for me. C was July baby and we did get hot in the Moby, but it didn't bother her and I'd sit in a sauna with her if it meant she would sleep, so I dealt with it

She's only 5 months and about 14 pounds, so I can't speak to the long term use, but I love that the straps can cross in the back, makes it much easier to put on by yourself. And it's great right now in the snow, since my stroller gets stuck.

ETA: The Gemini also has a forward facing front carry option. I know it's not popular in many circles, and I only tried it once and didn't like not being able to see her face, but I like having the option for certain times-- the one time we tried it was her first snow day and I wanted her to see all the snow.

I tried the Ergo before I bought the Beco. I felt like the Beco was easier for me to put on and take off by myself. I did like the forward facing option as well. I used it to carry DS to daycare every day and know that he liked facing out on the 10 minute walk. However, when he was going to be in it longer, we could face him in.

I currently own the Ergo and am tempted to get the Beco for the forward facing feature bc DS loves people watching and sightseeing. He does great in the Ergo right now, but I think he'd enjoy forward facing once in awhile.

The Ergo is bulky and I found the infant insert to be handy as DS is small and it also helps keep him warm when it's cold out. DS runs hot in general, and the extra heat/sweat doesn't seem to bother him unless he's in it for a very, very long time.

The ergo fit me better and was more comfortable. There is a new ergo that can be worn facing out. We used the bjorn and moby (borrowed both)when she was really little but now at 6 months we only use the ergo

@locavore_mama: its a soft structured carrier like the Ergo. Super comfy!

@HLK208: You can get an infant insert for it, or use a rolled receiving or swaddle blanket

@Zbug: Try the beco gemini. It was a lifesaver for us.

I just went to a local store with a bunch of options over the weekend and was told that since different carriers fit different body types differently that your best bet is to go in and try them on AND if your so will wear it too they should come in and try it on as well.

She also pointed out that the ergo doesn't fit petite frames as well as some of the other options.

@LindsayInNY: There's a baby expo that is giving out an Ergo and I already have a Beco Soleil bundle from a flash sale. There is another baby expo that is giving out the Beco, but I don't think I need two. Though, I am having twins so I could very well need two. I'll probably wait to see how I like the Beco before getting a second. The Ergo 360 looks pretty cool, too. I doubt they are giving that one away at the expo. I'm thinking the DH will like the Ergo and I'll like the Beco. Who knows, though.

@LindsayInNY: Oh, I didn't check the colors yet. Maybe they'll have more colors coming out soon.

@LindsayInNY: c is almost 20 months now. We used the beco from 3 months to 16 months very happily. I loved that thing. But now I feel like she is too big for it and fits better in a borrowed ergo. So I like them both. In your case is stick with the free-ish beco and if you find you are still babywearing as baby gets bigger you could probably borrow an ergo or buy something like a Tula.

Full disclosure I sort of wish I had just gotten a. Tula, but I really think the beco was better in the early days.
