DS and I are going on a 2.5 hour flight next month. He's 18 months and too big and squirmy to be on my lap and his carseat won't fit on the plane. Has anyone used CARES, or a similar travel harness? Are non-lap children under two required to use such a harness or can they sit in the seat by themselves?

I have a CARES Harness, and my son didnt do so well with it.
It only restrains them from the "top," there is no crotch restraint, so he could completely slide out from the bottom.

No experience with CARES. The last time I flew with LO she was a lap child, but there happened to be an empty seat beside me. She sat in it just fine, and no one said anything. She thought she was so big sitting in that seat

I have not used a harness but children are not required to use one, that I am aware of. They just have to have the normal seat belt fastened when everyone else does.
