Your poll doesn't have the option for "no", but I have NEVER heard of this. You're supposed to have the ENTIRE MONTH to get your tags renewed.

I was born on the 1st of the month, so this cop would imply I need to get my tags done the month BEFORE my birthday???? NOPE! Definitely not right!

Uhh that's ridiculous. I've never heard of that! I don't know your local laws, but sounds fishy to me.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Definitely look up your state laws, but I have NEVER heard of such a thing and it totally sucks that you have to deal with this when I'm pretty sure it's wrong!

I was going to say that @lawbee11:! What in the world does your birthday have to do with registration? Unless you got it on your b-day?

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I would print that out and mail it in to the court house along with the ticket. I would also nicely explain in your letter than you want the ticket to be dismissed so you don't have to take leave from work to fight a ticket that was given unnecessarily.

@Adira: Interesting. I'm in Texas. Mine actually expires this month but my birthday is in February. It seems weird to me that it expires the month of your birthday...I don't see how they are related!

Our drivers licenses expire on our birthdays but tags have nothing to do with birthday month. That sounds ridiculous! If there is a particular date within the month that you have to renew tags by then it should be clearly communicated!

I was just at the DMV yesterday dealing w/ my tags. They're OK until the end of the month

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: What the statute doesn't indicate is what the "registration period" is . . . chances are, the registration renewal fee is required to be paid by his birthday (or a late fee is assessed), so the "registration period" does not automatically extend to the last day of that month (if that makes sense).

I'd do what @Mamaof2 suggested. That is really irritating!

Here the tags expire on the last day of the month in which you bought the car/registered it for the first time. Since I bought mine in December, they expire then. If you got it in august, they expire then. It has nothing to do with your birthday. I never realized it was different in other states!

It says: "If you own a standard motor vehicle, then you must renew every year by your birthday, with the renewal period beginning 30 days prior to the registration deadline."

@Adira: I am in NC! Both of our cars have different months on the tags, neither of which are DH or I's birthday month!

@MrsTiz: thank goodness or I'd have expired tags AND an expired license all the time. November is unusually busy for us...hahaha!!

This thread made me wonder if I was crazy, so I had to look up our state rules, haha! Ours have to be renewed "no later than 10 days after your birth month, even if your original inspection sticker has not expired."

I've never heard of that!

I actually just looked up the rules in this province and they expire on the last day of the month.

Our tags say April (gotta get on that!) because we bought our car in April! Our birthdays are both in February.
