I'm with you! Why post a picture if it's not relevant??

I recently got into a tiff with my teenaged cousin on Facebook. She posted about high-schoolers getting pregnant and basically shaming them. In general, I believe high-schoolers should be using protection, BUT we (my cousin and I) have relatives (on Facebook that we're both FB friends with) who have gotten pregnant in highschool! So I thought her post was kind of insensitive, given our family, so I pointed that out and we got into an argument about it.

I saw an article recently defaming the use of funds by the ALS Association (using data from last year, pre-Ice Bucket Challenge)...and which then went on to talk about all sorts of things that supposedly cause (or prevent) ALS, all of which appear to be complete B.S.. I really hate that stuff!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: one of my friends started shilling one of those pyramid schemes that includes supplements, teas, shakes, skin care, etc. She claimed it would cure everything from obesity to depression, heart disease, nail fungus, diabetes, you name it. I did some research, posted some facts that directly contradict the product's claims and pointed out that their "evidence" was all anecdotal and/or pseudo-science. She continued to push it hard, so I had to block her in my newsfeed. She's a trainer and claims to be a nutrition consultant as well, and it just makes me crazy that she's trying to sell her friends and clients on glorified snake oil. And it's expensive (over $200/month for the recommended package)!

There are a bunch of hot button political / religious ones too.

I know some of you probably disagree but when I see something from that "foodbabe" I prepare myself for a big old eyeroll. She loves her some unsubstantiated claims. I have a couple friends who like to share her posts.

I unfriended an OBGYN friend who posted a disgusting, horrifying joke last night at the expense of his patients. I wanted to physically assault him so I quickly pushed "unfriend" before I lost it.

Oh, and that unintentionally hilarious conspiracy theory about the ALS challenge being a satanist plot to purify the world for sacrifice?! I thought it was satire but when I realized the chick was serious I was just like

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: haha snopes is great. They investigate all the urban legends, FB myths, etc and post concise summaries with all the facts. So for example, someone says "OMG don't eat cup-a-noodles, there's wax in the containers and they'll kill you!" and I google "Snopes cup-a-noodles" and get this: http://snopes.com/food/warnings/noodles.asp

I've had to delete a couple of "friends"/family due to extreme anti-abortion posts. One in particular still annoys me to this day when I think about it.

i deleted a girl on fb recently and she is apparently furious about it... i have to see her at an upcoming baby shower and i'm dreading it.
but she was posting the most obnoxious, inflammatory things... anti-epidural, anti-c section, anti-hospital births, anti-OBGyns. and it was so judgemental and awful. she would literally post things about how awful epidurals are and finish it off with the hashtag: #realwomen. UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM... no. that was the final straw for me.

I have several people whose posts I block because it annoys me too much. And one friend who does post a lot of the fb urban legends but is quick to admit it was a hoax if some one else posts the snopes link (not that she is trying to hoax, just that she is glad she was wrong).

I had a FB friend who posted a rant last year about how people are too reliant on vitamins and how pregnant women wouldn't need to take prenatal vitamins if they would just eat healthier. He even said something like "Instead of taking a prenatal vitamin for folic acid, pregnant women should get their nutrients naturally by eating six cups of spinach every day."

At that point I was so deep in first trimester nausea that I was pretty much only consuming saltines, plain bagels, and water so he was quickly unfriended.

That whole McDonald's Pink Slime FB post that was making the rounds in 2012. Ugh. I'm not a huge McDonald's fan or anything but even 2 seconds of googling will tell you all of that Pink Slime stuff was false. Including the infamous picture.

@loki: Exactly! Just a totally clueless dude. His only defense is that he isn't married and has no children. I pity his poor future wife when she's having morning sickness and he's trying to shove 6 cups of spinach down her throat every day instead of one of those scandalous prenatal vitamins.

@MediaNaranja: ugh, I unintentionally started stuff with that article too! It started with a "I can't imagine how anyone could ever FORGET THEIR OWN CHILD" so I posted that article as a "it really can happen to anyone, read this very well done article" and it created more "I would never do that, you must be stupid to do that" comments. And I just want to say "did you even READ the article?!?" But most didn't. And I didn't want to go around in circles. So annoying. But such a good article!

@mamimami: @mrs. wagon: Is she the one who posted about Starbucks Pumpkin Spice coffee? Because yes! She is what made me cross my FB commenting line with a cousin. I had my cousin hidden for a long time (but un-hid her because she may be pregnant soon and it'll be hell if I miss "liking" that, gag me). Anyway my cousin posted the link about whats "really" in Starbucks, which my cousin said she doesn't even drink when she posted it, and I couldn't help it. That foodbabe is nuts - who actually thinks Starbucks drinks are good for you?!
