So up to a few days go, it always shows people I have mutual friends with. Suddenly, it all changed into people I have no mutual friends with, all of middle eastern descent, very strange... I changed my password just in case but wondering if this has happened to anyone else!

I've been noticing a lot of suggestions that show "friend suggestion" (as opposed to mutual friend, & I usually have no idea who they are. It's annoying!

I've noticed a few where we share at least one mutual friend (actually I think you show up on there quite a bit) but most of the friend suggestions are people with no mutual friends. So strange!

This feature is SUPER creepy. I've been having moms that I babysit for super rarely pop up. We have zero friends in common. I was really confused who one person mom was because they don't use their real first name and it still recognized them as a person I may know.

I had my acupuncturist pop up once, which was SUPER weird because we have no friends in common and I never talked about her or acupuncture on Facebook.

I always had the impression that if people searched for you they might show up in 'people you may know,' which is creepy but makes sense. Idk about total randos, though. I have noticed on Instagram there will be random people thrown into suggestions and it says something like 'new to Instagram' so maybe it's the same thing on FB.

I've had my husband's boss suggested to me and he is not even friends with my DH. So creepy. And quite literally we have talked about something random and then had ads pop up for that topic.

Not sure about OP, but for some of these others, it's scary what facebooks knows, especially if you're using a smart phone. I've definitely got random work clients come up after they've called me on that phone once, so accupunturist or babysitting mums, if you have their numbers, pretty sure they can search for contact details... and the ads for stuff you've just talked about? Any chance you googled something about that conversation? It really doesn't take much.

@Properpie: I know it has happened to me before but I don't recall the specifics but I've complained about it to DH. He came home the other day and said he had a conversation at work about grilling tools and what stores you can find them for cheap. No Google searching at all. Next time he was on the phone, ads for grilling tools.

What happens sometimes is if people import their contacts to look for Facebook friends, they will then appear in your People You May Know. I've had landlords, professors, etc. appear there that I have no mutual connections with.

I don't have the fb app on my phone b/c the permissions give it access to essentially everything. It's bad enough that google knows everything about me. My fb is only linked to my college email, which has been expired for over a decade, and not linked to my phone # or current email, so hopefully not linkable through other people's contacts either.
No idea about completely random people showing up as friend suggestions. I haven't kept up with fb privacy settings but at least there used to be a way to make yourself unsearchable, or to only be searchable by friends of friends (which granted is already a zillion random people).
