My son's name isn't on the list! It's one of the most popular names in Australia, where hubby is from, so we like that fact about it

  2. Arden

Isla?!?!?! I'm mad now. And Vera? Come on.

  3. kml636

    pomegranate / 3225 posts

Yikes, everything I thought was unique was on there. I think it depends where you live though, somehow I just don't see a lot of Isla's in the area where I am.

Wow im surprised by some of the names on there! im surprised levi is on there. i love that name and everyone i mentioned it to made fun of me for it.
sad that grayson and harper are on that list, i relaly like both those but i figured they were getting popular.
glad P's name isnt on ther, i dont think it will be, its not in the top 1000 on the SS website!

I'm glad that none of our boy choices are on there, but at least three of our girl choices are on that list. Fudge.

@stargal: I’m surprised Levi is on there too. I don’t know anyone with that name and I like it a lot. Isn’t Matthew Mc-however you spell his last name and Camilla Alves’ son named Levi? I wonder if that’s why…

My son's is, under a 'group' of -o ending names. It's to be expected.

II can't believe Vera and Elsa are on the list. Two very unpopular names, IMHO, and two of my favorites. And olive? And alice? I don't hear too many of those..... weird!

  9. stargal

    pomegranate / 3890 posts

@runningelley: Yes! i forgot about him, probably thats why.

i was also surprised about olive!

Yay! Both the girl and boy name we are thinking (well pre-pregnancy) aren't on there. We are waiting to discuss names for sure once we know the gender.

Hmm my LO's name ends in lyn but it is not a common name. I did realize that it was going to be part of the -lyn trend but we love it! It's old fashioned which is what I wanted (especially when paired with her middle name).

  13. Mrs. Pen

    blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts

@cheesetomywhine: we were considering lyn ending names because that's my mom's middle name... initially I had no idea it was becoming a trend, I just wanted a family name

@Mrsdaredevil: I know an Elsa who was born the day before Cobi! She was in my LLL group.

@stargal: @Running Elley: for real?! I know tons of Levis!!

DS name is on there. We picked his name because it wasn't too popular, now it's gaining popularity. There was even another little boy born on the same day and same hospital as DS.

i'm so happy that our finalized name isn't on the list for LO

  19. mediagirl

I'm so glad no celebrity has named their child our lo's name. That seems to be where most name popularity comes from. I'm happy to report our lo's name is not on that list.

Sigh, Evelyn is becoming popular and I never expected that. I just wanted to name her after my Grandma!

Our son's name didn't make it, but Archer, Declan and Oliver were on my list when we were still deciding. The girl's list seems right on. I think every baby girl that's been born around me in the past year has her name on that list.

  22. Mrs. Pen

    blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts

@prettylizy: that was my great grandma's name! I was going to name my little girl Evangeline and call her Evie, which is what my gg's nn!

  23. PrincessBaby

I knew Harper was climbing since stinkin' Posh Spice had to name their daughter that, but I'm still in love with the name we picked and I just have to hope it won't blow up into a "Jennifer/Jessica/Michelle/Amanda" epidemic.

@jholler25: I think that's the most important thing - you LOVE the name you chose no matter what.

It's funny how many people are upset their name is rising in popularity.. whereas some people I know choose a name because it IS popular..

  25. prettylizy

    GOLD / papaya / 10206 posts

@Coco Bee: we call her Evie all the time. I just love her name to pieces.

  26. cheesetomywhine

    pear / 1586 posts

@Coco Bee: It is my mum's middle name as well! It made me happy since her middle name is my daddy's name. So now she has pieces of both her maternal grandparents

  27. Minnie_Girl

It's fascinating to see what's popular! There's a pretty clear division between new fashioned namers and old fashioned.

@prettylizy: I love that name! And especially that it was picked for grandma. Good choice. *thumbs up*

Our name isn't on there! There are some... interesting choices on that list.

DD's name is on the "rising popularity" list and a variation of the name we chose if LO#2 is a girl is also on the same list but I don't care. We selected DD's name in honor of deceased family and I just like the name we selected for #2. Our boy's name isn't on the list at all.

  30. Boogs

I'm pleasantly surprised LO's name isn't on there. Either way I still love his name.

  31. Chastenet

@Mrsdaredevil: My daughter is Alice. I thought we were in the clear since it's not even in the top 200 last I checked...But I guess it's trending up? How annoying.

Anyone else notice that they listed two names as being the most trending boys name for 2011? It makes me wonder how well researched this list really is...

  32. lomom

Our baby will either be Elizabeth or a Jr., regardless of how popular either name is. I havei always loved the name Elizabeth and DH already calls LO Jr. I'm so glad it was easy to agree on names!

We were going to use Raelynn but decided not too (not quite our style) but I am surprised to see it really rising.

    @prettylizy: I love that name!
