I'm looking into getting a second carseat for DH's car - LO is nine months, and we'll be moving her out of her bucket seat soon. Any favourite convertibles to look for? Bonus points if they're reasonably priced, or come in fun colours!

We just installed a Diono and was pretty happy with it! We also have a britax and graco.

Love our foonf! I'm looking for a less expensive second seat for grandmas car so following

We love our Foonf...and the fact that it's made right here in Ontario!

I have a Nextfit - the price wasn't awesome, but it was incredibly easy to install and I knew I'd be needing to switch it between vehicles occasionally. And it's very comfy and nice.
DH has a Combi Coccoro (if I spelled that right), which comes in fun colors, was more reasonably priced, and does great in a smaller vehicle. But I do NOT recommend it if you're not going to just install the seat and then leave it there - that thing was a pain in the ass to install, DH spent hours on it and it was still wrong when the technician checked it.

HUGE fan of the Combi Cocorro! Lightweight, easy to clean, very cushy and comfortable looking, and lots of fun colors! I didn't think it was a pain to install, but I don't have anything to compare it to either.

@wonderstruck: Good to know about the installation-- that's one of my key concerns. Did you do a seatbelt or LATCH installation with each? Nextfit is one of my top choices, assuming it fits in our car well, but we don't have LATCH.

Before choosing, make sure you take into account a few things. Do you want to rear-face past 2, and is your LO on the tall side? If so, skip Britax. The Combi is cute but compact and again not the best choice for ERF. The Foonf has great safety features but it is a ridiculous heavy beast and very pricey. Dionos are great for ERF but not as easy to use as Britax. Etc etc ...
Here is a great place to start:

@Mrs. Yoyo: I've been looking at britax... But lo is 27" at 6 months... What would you recommend?

We have the nextfit and love it. We find we have more room wuth the nextfit than we did with the keyfit!

@redsmarties: I love our maxi cosi pria! We have it in gray but I LOVE the pink color. The material is really comfy and it has a cup holder. I like the Radian patterns but I don't really like the overall look of the seat (I know that's personal preference, though). I like the Foonf colors a lot, too, but I definitely wouldn't consider it reasonably priced.

@Ash: Radian (we have the RXT), nextfit, foonf, Graco head wise would all be potentially good picks.

I love how "reasonably priced" was in the original post and everyone is still recommending a $400+ carseat. lol
We did TONS of research (and considered a Foonf) and settled on the Graco My Size 70 (also called the Size4Me and Headwise). We've been very happy with it. Really great seat, especially for the $150 we paid for it. It's lightweight (I wore it on my back while traveling from the UK), has super high height/weight limits for RFing, and is really easy to install both RF and FF.
Others we considered were the NextFit and the Diono Radian.

@Mrs. Yoyo: Thanks for that link! LO is pretty petite, so I don't think height will be a factor, but I'll definitely compare some side by side.
@loveisstrange: glad to hear someone likes Graco! It's a second seat, so I can't spend a ton.
I love all the colours that the Foonf comes in, but it's definitely out of budget.
Thanks for all of your recommendations- I have some comparing to do!

@redsmarties: let me know what you decide ... Car seat shopping in Canada is so frustrating with our limited options, especially for a second seat. It seems like everything is either super cheap and gets bad reviews , or super expensive . Such a bummer

We're thinking about the Safety 1st Guide 65 for a second seat, but haven't picked it up yet.

@redsmarties: How often will she be in his car? We bought the Evenflo Sureride as our second seat. I see it recommended on Car Seats for the Littles all the time and it's definitely budget friendly. We got this pink one, but it comes in purple and black, too.

@lawbee11: I'll check that one out, too! He is taking her to day care every morning, so she'll drive with him as much as me. So I don't want to just get the cheapest seat out there, but I can't break the bank either!

@redsmarties: I honestly really do like the Graco. It's our main seat and I really don't regret not buying a more expensive one. It's actually on sale right now for $150 too! We have the Tina pattern, which is understated but still cute in person. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=33855776

Love our Foonf! Not reasonably priced but it DOES come in fun colours!

@tinyperson: that's what we have as a 2nd seat! It does the job and is light and compact.

@Foodnerd81: We do use LATCH, so I can't really comment on how the seatbelt install changes things. For myself the difficult part is usually tightening it enough, and that's the part that was super easy with the Nextfit.
I know some people don't have an issue with installing the Combi, I imagine it depends on the person to some extent. The car seat tech quickly determined that we needed a pool noodle to angle it properly and then she got it done no problem, so maybe if we'd tried the pool noodle sooner it would have been easy. I'm a little jealous of the way his looks, but as someone else mentioned, the height limits on it aren't as good for extended rear facing, so I'm glad I went with the Nextfit. I hesitated a lot because price was an issue for us too (there's no way the Foonf was happening) but it's pretty easy to get it for 20-25% off which puts it around the $300 mark. If that's still more than you're looking to spend I would probably look at the Graco. More work to tighten than the Nextfit, but a significant price savings. I would have gotten it if it weren't for the fact that I end up moving it to one of the grandparent's vehicles at least once or twice a month for babysitting purposes.

@redsmarties: the one thing about the graco that we don't like now that she's two and talk is how high the sides are and how hard it was to lift her up and over the sides. That's why we got the radian.

@redsmarties: we have the SureRide for my parents car. They said it was easy to install and R seemed fine in it the couple times she was in it.

@loveisstrange: Does that seat fold up? Or did you wear it upright? I'm trying to decide on a convertible and like the idea of being able to backpack it...thanks!
