I have a fetal echo next week, which is a standard test that my hospital does for all IVF pregnancies. Any experiences? Can they tell right away if everything looks good?

I just had one a few weeks ago because baby was positioned wrong at both anatomy scans and I was born with a congenital heart defect, so they wanted to be extra sure. It was basically a very long ultrasound - it took about an hour and I had to move into some different positions a few times. (Roll to one side or the other, mostly.) The tech will get all of the pictures and videos and then the cardiologist has to look it over - s/he probably won't interpret anything right away.
For mine, the tech brought me into the cardiologist's office (next door) and said, "okay, good luck!" I nearly wet myself, but it turned out that everything was fine. The doctor came in, said "everything looks good!" and then drew a diagram to explain to me what they can and can't pick up in a fetal echo. (There's some structure that is present in all fetuses but disappears before birth, and a small hole between the chambers that closes before birth, I think.)
But yeah, expect it to be about an hour, don't expect the tech to say much and the doctor will talk with you after you're done.

They ran a fetal echo on E because they thought she might have a heart defect. It took about an hour or so and they explained a whole lot about the heart, the defect they were looking for, and what it meant. Long story short, they basically said that nearly every heart defect either resolves itself or is fixable with surgery, so it's really not something to worry about. They didn't end up finding anything. E was born with a murmur that hasn't caused any trouble I have one, too)

I had one with DD, it was just a long ultrasound. The tech described a lot of what she was looking for and looking at and made "good" comments (probably shouldn't have). In their office you always meet with the Dr. immediately after the test to get results. All was good. Good luck!

For mine it was basically just another long ultrasound. We had a lot of long ultrasounds because of growth issues and AED exposure, so the tech just looked at the heart for a long time from different angles and as usual we met with one of the MFMs afterward where they told us everything looked fine. Hope it all goes well for you!

I conceived through IVF and I also had a borderline result for my NT scan. Similar to PPs, mine was just a really long ultrasound - the whole thing took maybe a little over an hour. The baby was moving like crazy, which made it even longer, but after the tech was done, the doctor came in and told me right away that everything looked normal. Overall, it was a positive experience. Good luck!
