I have my first prenatal appointment next Tuesday. What should I expect? Is this something that DH should go to? He plans on going to the 11 week ultrasound. What kind of questions should I ask? What was your experience?

I just had mine today! DH came, which was nice because they had us fill out paperwork about genetic conditions that run in our family and I didn't know his side of things. They just went over symptoms, what I can take for them, gave me hand outs, answered general questions, took weight and blood pressure. I got blood drawn for a bunch of screening stuff.
Then we met with the financial person to go over what insurance will cover, what we will have to pay for, etc. to be able to budget.
We didn't even see the doc today but will at 8 weeks (2 weeks from now) and will do a pelvic exam and PAP. I won't get an ultrasound until 11 weeks and that is only because we opted to do the Nuchal testing.

Mine was totally mundane. Weighed me, took blood pressure, I gave a urine sample and she figured out a due date. I was expecting so much more.

At mine they took a urine sample and blood, went over symptoms, things to do or avoid, schedule of visits, and tried to hear the heartbeat but couldn't bc it was still a little early (8 weeks). I was hoping for a dating u/s but they didn't since I'd been charting and had regular cycles. Dh came bc I was pretty nervous.

Every doctor is different, I would call and ask what happens. My first apt was a confirmation of pregnancy so they did an ultrasound.... Dh was there for that. My second was paperwork and an exam. They want to make sure everything is ok with baby before making you fill out all that paperwork.

Our nurse said it was a more of a 'getting to know' you type of visit. I'll have labs recheck that day along with the Dr. visit. I'm assuming it will be the standard check up with a little extra focus on the baby...I'd hate for DH to take time off for a run of the mill appointment. Then again I have go to ALL of his appointments. Egh. I'll probably let him sit this one out but I would like for him to be more involved so I'm not the crazy lady. He tends to listen to what the Dr. says better then he listens to me (even if we are saying the same thing).

My first prenatal visit included a dating transvaginal ultrasound where we got to see the heartbeat, measure the baby, get an EDD, etc. along with the normal bloodwork, discuss the yays and nays of being pregnant (e.g. a list of approved OTC medication, food do's and don'ts), discussed prenatal vitamins, etc. It was a pretty full and informative appointment!

Mine involved urine sample and ultrasound. DH wasn't able to go because of work, so my mom went with me. After our loss last time, I don't go to appointments by myself anymore.
