Eeeeek! Just talked with my sweetie about scheduling an appt for IUD removal and preconception visit. We'd been planning to start TTC in Sept or Oct...but...there kept being things that made us (mostly me) put it off. I am still feeling super anxious about the idea of actually making and being responsible for a new human, but, I think the excitement/drive to do so is finally winning out.
I haven't had a period since Nov of 2005 (back to back Mirena IUDs). I am nearly as nervous about menstruating again as I am about getting preggers.

@lilyifthewest: yay that is sooo exciting!! It is scary thinking about this actually happening though. It seems surreal! Not to mention how that BFP will feel!
@holisticmama: what an amazing idea to get your story out there. I think most women think they are just supposed to stop birth control, have sex and then voila, it happens. It's good to see you supporting others and also getting support the same.

@snowjewelz: Well...want to look at mine?!
I've been charting a few symptoms plus cycle length and period length since I got off BC in August. This is my first full-blown temperature taking, OPK-testing cycle, though. I also Od way later than I thought I would. This is why I'm SO glad I used OPKs...I probably would have taken the little amount of CM around CD 14 and called it "good," which would have had me potentially miss my entire fertile period. I got in (I think!!) two good BD sessions around when I actually Od, and HOPE it actually made a difference. Only time (about 5-6 days!) will tell!

@chicalgobee: cool! I haven't actually looked at one yet. I haven't done temps yet, but I'm considering it for next cycle. I asked DH if he thinks we should use OPKs and he said no. He thinks it takes the magic out of it. Haha

@ChiCalGoBee: See that's why it's so confusing! There was no temp dip for your O, so you really wouldn't know without the OPK! Did your CM prompt you to use OPK? I think that's what I will do too; keep checking CM & the temp drop.
This is my chart right now; not much info/action going on!
nectarine / 2028 posts
@snowjewelz: that's what I was saying...each person's cycle is so different that, as I understood it, not everyone has a hugely noticeable temp drop before O? I had a little CM around CD 14, so figured that was "it" but it wasn't. And it turns out my ovulation was way later than CD 14, so I'm glad (personally) that I spent the $ on the tests. Otherwise I'd be hoping that BDing 4-5 days beforehand would somehow still count. ETA: I used OPks mostly BC I found them on sale at the grocery store, had trouble interpreting them, then had a friend recommend the smiley face one. I then kept using them BC I panicked that I wasn't ovulating, so this helped with that. I bought a huge box of them on amazon for the next cycle.
As you know, I'm a total newbie, NO expert-just sharing my experience.
@mrshansen82: yeah, I didn't consult my husband on this! I've been waiting so long for him to be on board that I'm happy to have the crazy, obsessive knowledge and just let him be involved in the "fun" part:-).
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@ChiCalGoBee: I share w/ him all my knowledge haha, he just shakes his head and laugh. But there are some not so fun things happening in our life (related to his work), so I think he is indulging me in my obsession to take my mind off other things!
Plus I think he & I both know that we don't DTD enough to not need TTC so I think logically he is on board.
Whenever I have a free moment at work (and not posting here lol) I am studying chart galleries on FF! I think I O later too b/c last month when I wasn't charting, I just went by CM and FF's prediction (which is standard).

@MrsHansen82: I totally agree that it is fantastic how open everyone is. I'm learning so much. googled CM last night. I was pretty nervous about what would come up still pretty unclear about it all to be honest. im on the TTW at the moment but if it's negative, I'm going yo buy some ovulation tests.
@ChiCalGoBee: ok, that chart completely confuses me. when did you ovulate? thanks, hope you don't mind me asking. i just can't work it out?!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Mrs.Lilac: She O'd on that vertical purple line, but only b/c she took OPK b/c her chart WAS confusing!

So my gay male boss just shared with me everything he knows about OPKs. I can't believe that just happened! LOL
nectarine / 2784 posts
@ChiCalGoBee: IMO your temperature shift agrees with your opk there, assuming the days you missed would have been similar to their surrounding temps. Do you temp orally or vaginally? I found my chart to much more consistent with a clearer shift when I started temping vaginally. Since temps can only confirm O after the fact and opk an only predict, it's good to have both pieces of the puzzle.
nectarine / 2028 posts
@anyajenkins: Thanks so much for weighing in. We traveled during CDs 13-16, so that threw off temps a bit. I think that's why it's good that I used OPKs to help me determine O since temp was all over the chart. I temp orally, but if it doesn't work this month might try vaginally next month.

so does anyone else spend a significant amount of time thinking of cute names for your future baby? or am I the only weird one?
persimmon / 1167 posts
@tarariggins: Sometimes names will pop into my head, but so far DH hasn't liked any of them. 2 days after I think I ovulated- I was imagining holding our new baby and Isabella popped into my head.
http://www.babynamer.com/Isabella
When I looked it up, I discovered the name meant "God's Promise," which felt very comforting. Even if DH doesn't love the name.
nectarine / 2053 posts
@HolisticMama: that is a PRECIOUS name. the front runner for me right now is Livia for a girl. I like they she can be called Livie or Liv for short. DH isn't crazy about the name, but he said it's growing on him!
apricot / 348 posts
@snowjewelz: ok thanks for the clarification. so from what I'm reading, temping doesn't help predict ovulation then? wow who should have thought this would all be so confusing! lol
@tarariggins: I have totally been dreaming of names. in fact hubby and I already have both first and middle names picked out for a girl ( Lila would be the first name) and first and possible second name for boy (Jonah). I'm just so impatient for the next step in the journey. I have been googling strollers all night too! two weeks has never felt so long. 11 days till I can POAS!! whoop
nectarine / 2053 posts
@Mrs.Lilac: so glad I am not the only one! Lila was on our list for awhile! And yes we think of middle names too! Livia Melody or Leo River, but of course we may change our minds a few times before that actually happens. I spent the whole day yesterday researching woven wraps and slings and today I have been researching cloth diapering. It all just fuels the fire!
nectarine / 2784 posts
@Mrs.Lilac: temping can only confirm ovulation has already happened.. I supposed it can predict for someone who has a distinct temperature dip just prior to ovulation, but many women don't have that. On Fertility Friend they have a charting "game" where they show you a whole bunch of full-cycle charts and you try to figure out when ovulation was- good for familiarizing yourself!
persimmon / 1481 posts
@tarariggins: I totally have a list of baby names on my phone. I don't know if we'll stick with any of them, but its fun to think about. I was actually surprized at how few names I liked on those naming websites. P.S. I LOVE the name Liv!
nectarine / 2053 posts
@MrsHansen82: I too keep a list on my phone! I'm glad I'm not alone!

CD38
14DPO
Some heavy spotting on tues, but not much since then
Temp is still above cover line
BFN across the board
Blergh!!
nectarine / 2784 posts
@tarariggins: my cycle length varies a lot and I ovulated really late this time, but my LP usually ends by 12dpo
apricot / 348 posts
@anyajenkins: so the point of temping is to do it for a while and hope to see a pattern? sorry about your BFN. think I'm definitely heading that way, I am so so irritable today which usually mean I'm due on unfortunately.
another question to the group that is TOTALLY TMI but... this whole CM Thing, from the lovely (

don't know why it keeps cutting my post off! grrr
I've been researching CM trying to understand it. from what I'm reading, it is correct that you have more CM when you ovulate or that it is a different consistency? I feel like I haven't really had any since coming of BC so does that mean I probably haven't ovulate yet?
nectarine / 2784 posts
@Mrs.Lilac: yep the "egg white" cm a sign that you're about to/ are ovulating! It can change in consistency throughout your cycle to be more sticky, watery, etc. Some women get more than others, so you might have to probe yourself a little to start monitoring cm

I just wanted to pop in (because I sadly don't belong here) and say how much I love this thread. Your enthusiasm is infectious and I am going to come here and thread stalk every time I need a TTC pick-me-up.

@anyajenkins: ahh, I'd be going crazy if I were you! I'm only on like 6dpo
persimmon / 1167 posts
@Mrs.Lilac: I'd also encourage you to get all your water in everyday (about half your body weight in ounces), as it really improves the amount and quality of CM.
Do you have quite a bit of CM throughout your cycle?
persimmon / 1167 posts
I'm CD31. Stuck. Negative Pregnancy Tests.
I've never seen anything past CD29. No signs of AF. No cramping. No spotting.
And I thought the 2WW was hard. :: sigh ::
RE wants me to call on Monday if I haven't seen a visit from AF by then.
persimmon / 1481 posts
@holisticmama: that sucks!! I had a really long cycle last time and I was going out of my mind. I keep getting BFNs too, and no AF. What an insanely confusing time rollercoaster!! I keep telling myself, it will definitely happen next month...
nectarine / 2028 posts
@anyajenkins: ugh-limbo stinks:-(. How are you feeling physically?
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Mrs.Lilac: trust me I thought I knew enough to start charting and once I did I am even MORE confused, because all our bodies are different! My temp's been all over the place, I started getting some CM but not sure what it is, and I might just start using OPKs for the heck of it (meaning I need to shell out $ to buy some more!)
nectarine / 2784 posts
@HolisticMama: how are you doing today? My temp went down this morning so I thought maybe it was finally CD1 but no flow, no cramping.. Did your RE say what might be the reason your cycle is so long this time? I know there are things that can delay ovulation, but once O occurs i don't know what could delay AF like this. I'm stumped!
persimmon / 1167 posts
@anyajenkins: Feeling good today. Was a bit nauseated at points during breakfast, but thankfully it went away. Now I just have a headache and have been waking up for two hours every night.
-_-
The nurse and I didn't talk about reasons. I suppose we will if they do an hCG and it's negative. She also said that there is a med I could start to kickstart my period, if necessary. But I'm feeling hopeful that it's just a little bean that is putting out low hCG.
How are you feeling?
nectarine / 2784 posts
@HolisticMama: AF started up a few hours ago. Disappointing, but I'm glad to be finally putting this cycle behind me
persimmon / 1167 posts
@anyajenkins: Sorry to hear about AF. It is nice to have answers and move forward. Are you going to try anything new this cycle?
nectarine / 2028 posts
@anyajenkins: Sorry about AF:-(. Hoping February is magic for you yet.
persimmon / 1481 posts
@anyajenkins: I'm in the same boat, AF reared her ugly head this afternoon. But on the other hand, we have a fresh start...that is what I'm excited about.
