I don't quite understand Flip Disposable Inserts. I get that you can throw out the insert, but don't you still have to wash the diaper cover? What is really the benefit if you still have to do laundry?

The covers can be used multiple times before they're washed. I would never use them long term but I think they'd be great for camping or vacation because you can easily hand wash the covers and they dry super quick.

@Navy_Mommy: Can you reuse them if they only pee on it because the pee wicks away onto the insert?

Yep - the covers only need to be washed after a dirty diaper or multiple pee diapers (at the end of the day). We use cloth most of the time but have used the disposable inserts when we're out for a whole day or gone for a weekend or something. The covers take up minimal space in a wet bag and since we only use the disposable inserts for short periods of time there is always going to be other diaper laundry to do that we can throw the covers in with.
I don't think I would use this system (or any disposable insert/cloth cover) for the long-term because as you said - now you have to do laundry AND you're still throwing something away.
I could be wrong, but I also am pretty sure that the FLIP inserts do not contain the gel that most diapers have to absorb liquids. Some moms want to stay away from that stuff so the flip insert is a good choice for someone who wants convenience with minimal chemicals and doesn't mind a little laundry (but doesn't want the full commitment of all cloth).

@tlcbaby: yeah, pretty much. Or if you want you can just quick wipe it down with a wipe.

@lindseykaye: @Navy_Mommy: Thank you! This makes sense now and I see the benefit of pocket diapers. I never understood it.

I LOVE my Flip diapers when I use the cloth inserts with my covers, but I bought a bunch of the disposable inserts before LO was here and I have only opened one pack! They're just taking up space in her closet

@lindseykaye: we're the same! two packs of disposable inserts and we only used two because we were practicing when we thought we were going camping and then we weren't able to! i keep wanting to use them, but i don't want to waste them! ha.
