I'm 37+3 and work is doing free flu shots today. OB says its ok to get but I wanted to see who else got them? Getting over a cold myself but have never had a reaction!

I asked my OB and she said I SHOULD get flu shots + the one for whooping cough! I'm 30+1

OB insisted I get one both times I was pregnant! I got it at 28 weeks this time.

@Nskillet: Definitely get it! Babies have to be 6 months old to receive the vaccine, so you'll be providing some passive immunity for your baby!

Definitely get it. It should provide the baby with some immunity after birth.

I plan on getting it soon after my first pregnancy appt. I'm going to wait to do it, just to be sure. I think that I got my flu shot before I got pregnant with LO last time.

Definitely get it! The shot will protect your newborn while he is too young to get it himself.

I got one the day before I gave birth (the first day they were available at my OB).

my OB gave me mine when I was about 30 weeks...she said it was best to get while pregnant so some antibodies were also passed to the baby who would be born at the end of October and the beginning of flu season.

curious (dont mean to thread jack!) how many of you normally get the flu shot or dont, and got it while pregnant? My family had this conversation on the weekend. I am 35 weeks pregnant, don
t normally get it. I got it last year as we were trying to get pregnant and my doc recommended for me to get it (where normally she has said that I am not high risk, a teacher so around germs so leaves it up to me). I see my OB next week and plan on asking her, but curious to see what other bees say.

@MrsScottish: I never had one before getting pregnant. I have a pretty strong immune system from working with kids all my life, but I wanted the extra boost for the baby. I got one last year because I had lo at home with me, and one this year because I am pregnant again. I will probably continue to get them since I'm not teaching anymore and have young kids.

@MrsScottish: I never got it until I was pregnant 3 years ago. Now I get the shot faithfully every year. I'm a little surprised that as a teacher you aren't considered higher risk because of all the germies you are exposed to.

@MamaG: I think being a teacher actually makes your immune system stronger. The first year is rough (like when kids start daycare) but after that I never got sick.

Never got one before pregnancy but my doctor told me I should so I did. I asked for the thimerosal free shot.

I'm hoping to get mine today! I usually do, but especially since I'm pregnant, I want to be sure to get it. I'm only 6w today, so baby will be born after typical flu season, but I want to avoid getting the flu & being miserable but unable to take many/any meds.

I got the Tdap about 2 weeks ago and will be getting the flu shot as well. My job is supposed to be giving them out in the next couple of weeks but since I'm already 36 weeks I may need to just go out and get it myself.

I'm going to ask my OB, but would you get your flu shot a week after getting a BFP?
We can get free flu shots at work on 10/15, but I'm due to POAS 10/10, so I might <fx> be newly pregnant. The consent form we received says if you're in your 1st trimester, you need a note from your OB.

never used to get shots before the kids but get it every year now. i did get the 1st one when i was like 26 weeks pregnant and i got a real bad cold after that.

I went to get my flu shot the day after I got my BFP. I should have gotten it earlier in the year, but once I realized I was pregnant it seemed much more important.
LO and I have both already gotten our flu shots this year!

@MrsScottish: I never got one before I was pregnant, but it was more because I was lazy and not because I had any issues with getting the vaccine. Since my OB specifically recommended it, I got it.
@ballerinabee: I got one in my first trimester but my OB gave me the one specifically for pregnant women, which is preservative free.

Yes! Good idea to get one, especially since you are due soon you will be passing on immunity during flu season for LO

Yes! I got it last week at 20 weeks. I always get it due to asthma issues.

I always get one...work in healthcare...but esp while pregnant. My question is that due to low supply right now my hospital only has the trivalent. Does anyone medical know if I should wait a month for the quadrivalent? Currently 12 weeks pregnant with twins.

Tried to get it at lunch today but couldn't because they only had the version with a preservative which us a no no in pregnancy. Will be getting it later this week!
I also never got one before babies. Lo is required to get one by 1/1/15 she is getting over a cold so I will likely take her next week before baby is born!

No, I did not and won't for future pregnancies either, but that's a very personal choice based on the advice of our pediatrician and our midwife and my own research.

I got both the flu shot AND whooping cough vaccination at my OB's office. They are both recommended. I never get them otherwise, but since my ob recommended it, I obliged. Did the same with my last pregnancy two yrs ago, too.

My OB has bugged me about it for my last couple of weekly appointments. I'm a needlephone/wimp and am opting to wait until I'm not pregnant anymore so that I can do the nasal version. My c-section is on Friday, so it wouldn't have happened far enough in advance to pass any antibodies onto the baby anyways.

@wonderstruck: still hoping to go into labor early for a VBAC attempt mama?! Mine is scheduled for 10/13
