DD2 is 7 months. She’s been eating solids for about 6 weeks via baby led weaning. She loves scrambled eggs & has had them multiple times (more than 5). She had them tonight for dinner (6pm) now, 3 hours later she just woke up & had thrown up a ton. She seems totally happy once we got her cleaned up & is nursing now. Could totally be a virus, but no other symptoms. I have no experience with food allergies but is this how they could potentially start? I’m going to call pediatrician in the morning.

My guess would be that it’s probably just random - both my guys have randomly thrown up in the night. Maybe too much dinner, maybe a mild bug. I would be concerned.

Ear infection? That’s the only time my lo has thrown up in the middle of the night outside of stomach flu

My DD started to show allergies to eggs about a year after eating them. Started with a small rash around her mouth. And then it turned into puking after eating eggs, but it would take awhile, like and hour or more later. And it would be puking until her stomach was completely empty. We had a blood test done and it showed an allergy to egg whites. ( I have heard these are not all that accurate). But we avoid any egg whites, unless baked into something then we are ok. And she can eat hard boiled eggs no problem, I have read that is common.

@MommySLP: so interesting that you should write this as my 8 month old was throwing up on Thursday but had no other symptoms (no fever, not fussy, etc.) and had thrown up on Sunday but was fine the rest of the week...only common denominator? Eggs! He had scrambled eggs on thursday for the first time and a pancake made with eggs on Sunday. I took him to the pediatrician for the allergy test on Thursday even though I KNOW they think I was being crazy and that it was probably “just a stomach bug” BUT, it was just too coincidental for me! I just can’t get behind a stomach bug that causes him to throw up on Sunday...be totally fine for several days and then throw up a bunch on Thursday (a few hours after eating the eggs and until his stomach was empty)...after eating eggs both times! Anyway, I find out the results next week hopefully! I’d rather just know and not wonder.
Eta: a friend who has a son with a peanut allergy told me their allergist told them that people don’t always react to the allergen the first few times even if they end up being allergic.

Fwiw, My dd just got a positive blood test for a peanut allergy and slight egg white allergy. At a year old I kind of forced her to eat a finger tips worth of peanut butter for a few days in a row to see if she would react and she never did. But at about 20 months she ate some mini ritz peanut butter crackers and she threw up several times a few hours later. She never got any hives. She can eat baked goods fine and tiny pieces of scrambled eggs mixed in fried rice but she refuses to eat normal scrambled eggs

Similar experience with my LO & eggs. The 1st incident was the second or third time she'd had hardboiled eggs around 8mos old, I'm guessing. She vomited within an hour or two the first time & many hours after the next time she ate eggs with no other symptoms of allergy or unrelated illness. It was on looking back after the 2nd incident I noticed the correlation to having had eggs. She's also done this twice after eating shrimp. I never got allergy testing done & now that she's approaching 3yo, I'll try again on a day we can spend all day outside to avoid the vomit clean up in her bed or on carpet.

Thanks for all the info. She never threw up again & is acting & nursing fine. She has a doctor appointment already scheduled for Tuesday so I’m going to talk to ped about it then. Really hoping it was just a fluke though!!

Hmmm. For what it's worth, at that age DD threw up pretty often after eating bananas. No rash, no stomach problems, no reaction if she got a tiny bit of banana with something else, so we thought it's probably not an allergy. We'd just wait a couple weeks and offer banana again. Sure enough, no allergy - it seems she just had trouble with the texture and it would come back up if she didn't chew well enough. So if your LO ate a little too fast, that could have been the problem...

@Mama Bird: I think I’m leaning towards this. She ate more than usual & still nursed before bed. Plus she was sleeping on her stomach, which she just started to do. I’m thinking it may have been a combination of things but I’ll see what the doctor says.

@MommySLP: it’s hard to say for sure, but I’m glad she’s doing better now and i would just keep monitoring her. When DS was 3, he had a huge bout of throwing up in the middle of the night, and we thought maybe it was the stomach flu, but by morning he was 100% fine. In the end, my friends and I (we were on vacay) decided it might have been due to overeating at dinner because he had no other symptoms and felt much better after throwing up.
