DS is 10 months, 20 lbs and solidly in Carters 9-12 month clothes with some growing room (not tons, tho.) He needs more, though, and noticed ON is having some great deals on baby clothes. The thing is, their sizing is 6-12 months and 12-18. I can't figure out which size to get him. I want a size comparable to Carters 9-12. Thanks!

ON runs small in my opinion. It was always the first brand that fit when he moved up a size and thus the first he outgrew.

I agree they mostly run small, especially pants. Plus I always rather buy big and have it be loose at first than fit perfectly for like two weeks and then they outgrow it.

T is 14 mo, 30 inches and 22 lbs and I just started putting her in 12-18. 6-12 still fits. If it's for photos or an event 6-12 otherwise size up.

12-18, I was always able to size up without looking sloppy when my petite kiddo was on the brink of a size

My slim but tall 8.5 month old is wearing carters 9-12 month and has a few old navy pieces in 12-18 months. In my experience, old navy runs a little shorter and wider than carters.

Well my 4 month old is in 6-9 month carters and 6-12 ON so I guess if yours is in 9-12 then the 12-18 would work? Sounds weird though.
Eta: DS is 19lbs and 26 inches and fits with a little room in the 6-12.

DS2 is in 12m onesies (Carters) and 18m sleepers (carters). He fits perfectly in 12-18m at old navy. I also think ON runs small, so definitely size up.

I just bought a bunch of Old Navy stuff for T. Carter's never fits him well because it's longer and leaner. He's also 20 lbs but relatively short and stocky and I love the ON 12-18 mo stuff on him. Room to grow but doesn't look too baggy. I did get a couple of 6-12 month pieces that looked bigger in the store and they do fit but won't for long. I love their stuff, seems to be good quality for the price and very soft.

I think ON runs shorter and wider than Carter's. LO is also in 9-12 month Carters with a little room to grow and all her ON 6-12 month pants are way too short on her but still too big in the waist. LO is 95% for height and 25% for weight to give you an idea.

I love Old Navy's baby clothes. They are good quality for the price and cute! Almost all of DD's current wardrobe is rompers from
Old Navy. DD is 17.5 pounds and about 28 inches. She's in 9 months at Carters and 6-12 from Old Navy fits great with room to grow. She's 7 months so it's pretty true to size. She grows out of it lengthwise before anything else. I would probably go ahead and get 12-18 for your DS so he can wear it longer. -
ON definitely runs small. I'd size up.

my LO never really fit carters because they are too skinny for his chunky cloth diaper butt. I always thought of carters as being "small" because of that.

Echoing what everyone else said. ON runs small especially for baby clothes. Baby J is in 12-18 months ON hand me down baby clothes right now at 20 lbs. and almost 12 months old.
It gets a little better for the toddler stuff. E is still in 3T pants there, but 4T tops there and everywhere else. He's run his 3T pants into the ground for the winter/spring season. Well worth the price.

ON runs slim in my opinion so I would go 12-18. R is 17 months and about 22.5 lbs (not sure how tall, guessing 31 inches) and solidly in 12-18.

I voted 12-18 but I don't think that's equivalent to Carter's 9-12; more that I think you'll get way more use out of ON 12-18 if your LO is already 20 lbs now.
