Just wondering if anybody would be interested in participating in a GD support thread? I was diagnosed ten days ago and it's been tough not having anybody to commiserate with!

I had it with my first and expect that I'll have it with any subsequent pregnancies (but I also know that each one is different). Hope some mamas who are currently going through it join your thread!

Thanks for starting this thread. I have GD for second time and this experience is different from the last time. I am eating and exercising the same but my fasting numbers are still high. I met with a NP-dietitian GD specialist yesterday and she reviewed my food/exercise journals and prescribed me Metformin to take at night.
How is everything going with you?

I had it with my 2nd and suspect I'll have it with future pregnancies. It was rough for me in the beginning. But afterwards I was thankful for the extra monitoring. It caught low amniotic fluid which led to my son coming early.
Hang in there!

I would love this! I am 32 weeks with my first and was diagnosed at 28 weeks. I am also about to turn 37, so am an older first time mom. I couldn't control it with diet/exercise, so I'm not on insulin. It was really scary for me at first, but now it's not so bad. I kinda of like that it forces me to eat so much healthier and exercise even when I don't feel like it!

@autumnlove: I'm actually doing pretty good! My numbers have been well within range save for a couple of funky lunch numbers (I blame that on bad scheduling) and I can still eat my usual breakfast which is nice!
The Diabetes Nurse rang me the other day to check in and let me know that my Hba1c number came back normal so I'm not an undiagnosed or pre-diabetic and she's also given me the go ahead to just test my blood sugar after every alternate meal - feels kinda weird after the frequent testing!
And I had another win yesterday, I tested my sugars after having a Happy Meal for lunch (six nuggets, small fries and a Sprite Zero) and they came back well within range. I'm certainly not planning on eating Macca's on a regular basis but it is nice to have options!
@MelisMc: I'm hoping that I can remain diet controlled and avoid any meds if I can!
@Mamasig: @tinyperson: Thank you for responding!

@Kemma: it's always nice to find treat things that don't affect your numbers!

@Kemma: I used to get normal numbers after somewhat "cheating" and get high numbers after eating everything right! It drove me insane and really pissed me off!
I hope you continue to do well!

Argh, I am so stressed about this whole GD thing. My diet is good and approved by the dietitian who told me I can add a lot more food, exercising over 60 mins and the Metformin at night isn't helping my fasting number at all. I guess I should give it more time!

@autumnlove: From what I've read, the fasting number is the hardest to control because it's completely driven by hormones, fingers crossed yours starts to behave itself!
So I've finally found my blood sugar kryptonite, homemade rice risotto! I had a reasonable sized bowl of tomato-based risotto for dinner tonight and when I tested my sugars 2.25 hours later I got my highest number in over a week! And I've decided that providing my numbers are still ok I'm going to allow myself one chocolate a week on a Friday evening

I had GD for both of my pregnancies. It was tough, and I struggled for a long time. I was able to control with diet alone, but it took me a while to figure out how my body handled sugars. I focused on eating often throughout the day to keep my metabolism up. Each meal started off with as little carbs as possible, allocating most of my carbs to vegetables. An hour or two after a meal I would treat myself to whatever I wanted to eat while still being able to maintain my sugars. Sometimes it was simply a glass of milk or fruit. Other times it was dessert. When I had troubles with fasting, I tried to eat a small meal after dinner like a sandwich. Continuing to eat after a meal would bring my sugar levels down. Everyone is different and how their body handles sugars. I noticed that some people can eat 20-30 grams per meal, but I had to stick to 10-15 grams. While I hated the diet, I did like how it made me focus on eating healthier overall. I'm on the small side and only gained about 15 lbs each time, making it easier to lose the weight afterwards.
