So I realized that I don't have my flu shot this year yet and I am already pregnant. Did anyone else get the flu shot in the first trimester? Is it safe to get during the first trimester?

Yes, I got it at my first appointment at 8 weeks! The CDC says it's fine!

I got it this year in my first trimester. They gave me a pregnancy-safe shot (I think it doesn't have a certain preservative in it?). My doctor's office strongly recommended getting it!

My doctor's office would've done it at my first appointment if they had some left. But they strongly recommended I go to a pharmacy and get one. They have a special version without mercury for pregnant women.

@lovehoneybee: @twodoghouse: @Mrs.Someone: ahh thank you for easing my mind! ive been googling and all the credible sites say to get it. But then I go to some message boards (not hellobee) and they are talking about how its not safe, etc, and it freaked me out!
Ok, no more googling!

@stargal: Yeah, just make sure your doctor knows you're pregnant (assuming it's a regular doctor and not your OB).

Sorry to threadjack, but I never usually get the flu shot... should I definitely get it now that I am pregnant? I am 8 weeks.

I did it at my 10 week appointment! My doctor just wanted me to have one without preservatives, which his office gave out. My DH got his done at Walgreens.

@stargal: If you go to a clinic or something (instead of your doctor) for the shot, just ask them for the preservative free one, since you're pregnant.

@pui: yes. My doc office makes everyone. Better a shot than the alternative!

Our OB office actually recommended it at the beginning of the 2nd tri, but I know most say to do it right away and it's fine. I got mine at 13 weeks!

@pui: Yes, it would be more dangerous for you and the baby if you got the flu. I hadn't gotten on since I was a kid, but got one when I was pregnant (and since).

I think I was in the 2nd tri but that's just because it was the date my work was offering them. Nobody mentioned a specific kind of shot for pregnant ladies, only that I needed to get the shot and not the nasal mist.

My doctor's office highly recommended it and I got it in my 3rd tri (it wasn't flu season when I was in early pregnancy). I work in an ICU and have taken care of some VERY sick pregnant women who got the flu.

Yep, got one at my 8.5 week appt. Admittedly, I also think I caught a flu bug two weeks later, grr, or maybe it was food poisoning, either way, not fun!

I got one at 5 weeks. My RE, OB, and PCP all strongly recommended it.
