My husband's goddaughter is turning one soon. I would like to get her something to complement the deposit we will make to her savings account. What do you think the best gifts for a one year old are?

My brother and sister both asked for 'age appropriate toys' for their sons' 1st birthdays. Things with cars on tracks and shape sorter/puzzle type toys were popular. They already have tons of clothes from hand me downs.
I'm sure someone, you know, with an actual one year old, will have more advice.

this is what I'm thinking of getting my nephew. I want to get some for DS too when he's older.
It's edible fingerpaint made entirely of vegan, eco-friendly ingredients. It looks totally awesome.

@Coco Bee: my sister, and more so, her husband, would kill me if I got them finger paint! But they live in a one bedroom apt, if the had a backyard or somewhere appropriate to finger paint, I'm sure that would be a lot if fun.

I always like to give experiences because kids get so many toys, it's ridiculous. I've given tickets to the zoo and sesame street live as well as memberships to the children's museum and passes to the pool.

I found these blocks to be great, they're not that pricey and they don't hurt if they build a tower and it falls down:

The Melissa and Doug chunky puzzles are also easy for 1 year olds to handle.

I bought these for friend's daughter that's turning 1 in October:
Aurora Plush Baby Yasmin Doll

Tomy Octopals Bath Toy

The doll kind of looks like her and the bath toy she can play with her big bro. I'm not sure what else to get though, so I'll be following this thread.

My LO got soooo many toys and clothes, way more than we will ever need. I agree that experience gifts are nice, or ask the parents what they need. People asked me (I said she needs shoes and plates/utensils) and then nobody bought that stuff. She also got a lot of cute beach/pool themed gift baskets, many had practical things in them like swim diapers and sun tan lotion along with the cute things like swim suits and sun glasses (which she has a ton of!)
