So a good friend of mine just got news that they are relocating to the east coast from tx in a month. Cue sad face! Her little boy is turning 1 this weekend and I wanted to get a little something for him. It's not expected that I get him a gift at all, but I'm going to miss all of them very much. I'm not sure if they are driving or flying yet, but I was thinking of getting something portable. They also could be moving every 6 months with this new job, so something long lasting too if possible.

a book is always a keeper! i got a small set of overly priced tegu blocks for LO to keep him occupied on a plane ride. unfortunately it didn't work for us but it might be a hit with your friend's LO.

a skiphop backpack or lunchsack? My LO was obsessed with putting things in and unzipping the bag for a long time and she loved that it was especially for her.
otherwise, I say new books!

@edelweiss: Definitely agree with books! We made an international move when my son was 14 months, and we kept all the books (can't say the same for some of the toys).

i like the backpack idea and maybe fill it with things he can use during his trip, snacks and travel magnadoodle, crayons, coloring book.

What about this Thomas play and go set? Totally portable, and most little boys love trains!
