We are just buying for my nephew this year (not his parents) and his Dad told me that he is interested in remote controls and the iPad. He is 14 months old. Any suggestions on toys for a child this age with these likes? I think the laugh and learn remote might be a little young for him now?

Maybe an iTunes gift card, along with a list of recommended age-appropriate learnings apps to use it for?

You could just get him a tv remote from Radio Shack or Target and not put any batteries in it

My son is 18 months old and still loves the fisher price remote and flip phone. There are things like leapster. I haven't really found anything I really like yet.

Hmm my daughter is 15 months old. She's into fisher price little people, imagination play toys, and arts and crafts.
She is finally getting into Disney movies especially those with animals she knows (dogs, fish, etc).
We don't do a lot of technology for her so I'm not a lot of help on that end.

My nephew is actually a little more into his "flip phone" now, at 21 months, than he was at 1 year. But he far prefers the real iphone.
If you bought a real remote, do put batteries in it so it will light up, but don't 'connect' it to any TV in the house. I know my nephew is not fooled when you take the batteries out, he wants it to light up. Kids-- they're too smart these days.

Ok so this might not be what you want to hear, but I would basically ignore what the dad said. My boy is 17 months and also loves pressing buttons and all the electronics but whenever people have gotten us toy phones and whatever they are rarely played with (he rather just take our iPhone and flip through pictures or something). So if I were you I would just get something else that will have a long play life- blocks for example see way more play time then anything that makes noise in our house. Just my 2 cents.

I think toy remotes are boring after a while but toy cell phones will be fun for longer. The Leap Frog laptop @chopsuey linked to looks fun, too!
