i would just say i hadn't been feeling well and am taking a cough syrup...and you don't want to mess up your liver! if you drink sprite all night, it might not draw that much attention to it.

I choose other. I will have the same problem in a couple of weeks and plan on being in cahoots with the waitstaff. We are going to a place that I frequent and I know the waitstaff will keep the secret.

Talk to the bartender/waitress, and ask her to switch the drinks out.

I think the others have a good idea to let the waitress know. I get migraines and can't drink anyway so it was easy for me. You could also say you've been getting lots of headaches lately and you think alcohol is a trigger for them so you don't want to drink, which is why you pushed for brunch.

I've done the in cahoots with your waiter thing, works like a charm. Go for vodka soda, or gin and tonic, rum and coke minus the vodka, gin or rum.

I'm a wino, and I used dark grape juice for wine (the dinner was at my house though, so I could swing this) and I also did the waiter thing and they brought me "fake cosmos" all night. My friends knew something was up since I usually stick with wine, but they didn't really say anything until I told them in week 10.

The problem with option #2 is that if someone offers you a drink or just buys one for you (even if you already have one) what are you gonna do? If they're the types that are like "Come on! I'm gonna buy you another drink!" then option #1 would give it away. If you can think you can get away with nursing one drink all night long, I'd vote for #2.

I would order a glass of wine and pretend-sip it all night, which is what I had to do when I was 6 weeks preggo.

I would normally say you should lie and say you are on new medication where you can't drink but in this circumstance, I would go early and sip on a virgin drink. Maybe ask for a Shirley temple (sprite with cherry juice and some cherries)

I had this problem a few weeks ago. Luckily, we were at a place where you had to go to the bar to get a drink. I went up alone and chatted with the bartender - we had an understanding. We all went out for dinner later and I didn't order a drink, and they noticed, but no one asked if I was pregnant. I like to think they just have excellent manners and know that if I am pregnant, I'll let them know when it's the right time. I really didn't want to lie to them.
