Any recommendations for good stimulating toys for an 8 month old? (well, almost 8 month old) I feel like he is bored with what we have -- and he's been playing mostly with tupperware, wooden spoons, etc for the last 2 weeks...
He may also not be that interested since he's been working hard on being able to pull up to standing since he started crawling...

My DD is 10 months old and will play with everything BUT her toys. Tupperware, measuring cups, her milk bottle caps, shape sorter blocks, cars/trains, books, balls.
I think balls and cars are her favorite right now. She loves those cars where you pull it back and they goooooo. She loves crawling after them.

@autumnlove: classic! good call!! those will be great for many stages too.
@banana: yep - everything BUT toys for the most part here... i feel like we shouldn't waste too much money on toys -- cars that go are a great call though.

Leap frog xylophone, musical drum ( forget the brand) Fischer price stacking cups, basically anything that plays music or makes noise. Shakers, bells, etc. After t could pull up he llived his wooden activity cube and musical table b

@hellobeeboston: my son is 8 months too and he's digging a wooden puzzle with big knobs on the pieces. He also likes board books. Mostly, though, he's into ladles, jars full of colored water, a ziplock Baggie full of beads, and cords. Cords are his jam.

Since she loves those red solo cups I put 2 or 3 wooden blocks in the cup and she plays with that. I got her a fisher price remote. Given a choice she prefers the real one. She still likes her other toys (rattle, geo-ball, winkel toy).
@mewtill: I'm looking for a good wooden puzzle with pegs. Where did you get yours?

@katsupgirl: I taught preschool for a time and inherited them from another teacher. Melissa & Doug make them though - the key words are "jumbo knob puzzle".
Which, "jumbo knob"?! I'm in fits of immature giggles over that.

Right now his absolute favorite toy is his walker. There are games on the front where you put the ball or shape through the hole and a bunch of things that make noise. And he can pull up and walk with it.
He also loves the wood puzzles with knobs, and vehicle with wheels (from toy cars to the wheels on our BOB stroller), a few blocks that my mom bought him that make noise, and a cylinder bowl thing that rolls on the kitchen floor. He crawls after it.
Oh! He also really likes our laundry basket. It's the kind that has kind of holes on the side? He thinks touching the holes, me peeking through them, etc is the funnest thing ever.

I third maracas dd goes crazy glfo them. Anything that she can shake and make noises with. There is a v tech table she loved to play with at my friend's house

Ok, sounds like maracas are a must and some play table thing will be great too so he can stand and play at that instead of our ottoman where he just goes after the remotes!

Ooh good thread! O doesn't crawl or pull up yet and is very happy with board books, touch and feel books, fisher price remote, the parents brand soft blocks, stacking cups, etc. she likes to take two toys (cups, rings, balls) and clap them together.

@Running Elley: oh yeah, the laundry basket! I was in heaven the day I discovered he'd happily pull rags through the holes while I folded the laundry!!
