I've seen on a few boards (though not on hb) this idea of grandparents suing for grandparent rights, which I think is visitation.

Have you ever heard of this?

My initial reaction is that it's crazy the courts would grant a non-parent access to a child. If I were to sever my child's relationship with any relative, whether it be grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. it'd be for a darn good reason.

I have cut one very toxic uncle from my life and he will not see LO. I doubt it'll be an issue since he and I live 800 miles apart, but the reason he's not part of my life and I no longer have any contact is because he's a verbally abusive alcoholic. He's called me a c*** while drinking, among many other things (the last incident happened when I was 18).

I know this is about grandparents having rights and not uncles but it's still just crazy to me that the courts could interfere with parental decisions such as who will and won't be in your child's life.
