So I think I'm going to buy DH a grill for Christmas, but I can't decide what kind!
What kind of grill do you have/prefer: Propane, Natural Gas or Charcoal? Do you have a grill under $200 you'd recommend? (Natural Gas is not an option for us.)

Charcoal has a nice taste, but takes way too long to get going and hot. I find it a big PITA! We have a gas grill now and the convenience and speed is unbeatable!

For ease of use, natural gas wins for me. No refilling tanks, no running out midway through a meal and I BBQ year round so waiting for coals in the middle of Canadian winter stinks. When we are camping or have time to get the hibatchi going it's always delish

Gas and propane heat up fast and are convenient but charcoal makes food tastes the best.
Weber grills are good quality: http://m.weber.com/grills/series/2

We have all 3 and charcoal is def the best.
But more work.
If he doesn't have a regular propane grill and you grill a lot I would go with that but it's hard to find a nice one for under $200. Or you can get him the classic Weber charcoal grill for under $200. I think all men covet the weber??

Haha see there's my problem! I want the flavor of charcoal and the ease of propane! And under the $200 limit we set for each other!

Depends. Propane is fast and simple. Charcoal is waaaaay slower and finicky, but seems more...home-ish and summery. I'd prefer propane, but my man loves charcoal.

When we have the time, we always use our charcoal. On nights where time or convenience is important we use charcoal.
The charcoal would make it easier to find a quality grill in your budget though!

CHARCOAL! Nothing compares to the taste of char-grilled meats! I'd say go with a Weber!

If we had a charcoal grill, we would never use it since it takes so long. We love our Weber propane grill. It is the best way to get my husband to cook for me!
Plus my husband and lighter fluid is a terrifying combination

Food definitely tastes better with charcoal which is what we have. We had a propane one in the past which was definitely convenient.

We have a charcoal. We don't use it that often because it takes a while, but when we do it's super yummy.

Well when we were talking about our day last night before bed I told him there was a post-a-thon last night and that there were a lot of food and cooking posts, which made me happy, and then slyly brought up this one (but saying it was someone else's post). I just brought it up saying there was a poll about charcoal vs propane grills, and left it.
He picked up my unspoken question about which he'd prefer without realizing I'd purposely left it dangling for him, and said he liked charcoal but he preferred propane just because it was way easier.
So now I know his preference, and just have to find a decent, affordable propane grill. I'm hoping to get a good deal the weekend after Thanksgiving, lol.
Thanks for the feedback!

Charcoal tastes best, but propane is the easiest to deal with and fastest to warm up.

I don't like the char taste, so we have a propane grill. It's awesome!!

I got DH a 50/50 grill for Christmas, half of it is charcoal and half is gas! Boom, best of both worlds.

@FutureMrsMcK: The best quality ones are definitely Weber, but I don't know if any of them are under $200? I got DH a big Weber for Christmas last year, but before that we had this one: http://www.amazon.com/Weber-516501-Portable-189-Square-Inch-Liquid-Propane/dp/B0045UBBG8/ and we loved it. There's a stand that you can buy too, so it's more like those big ones.

Our house has a natural gas line for the grill, so that's what we have. We LOVE it. We also have a charcoal grill, but it's so time consuming we hardly ever use it.

Oooh, I was just reading through this because I want to buy DH a grill!
@FutureMrsMcK: Which one did you decide on?

@autumnlove: None, I actually ended up buying him a PS3, lol. (Our Wii bit the dust). He told me he would have wanted a propane, though.

Charcoal! But get one of those charcoal chimneys... No time at all!
