@lawbee11: I was actually coming to post this!
Not surprised.
And there's an ad with Gwyneth on the page now for Restorsea.

Not surprised. Too bad we won't get that juicy Vanity Fair article about her.

@cascademom: I know. I was kind of bummed out that it wasn't all it was built up to be. I wanted a GOOP takedown!

@mrsjazz: Me too. She was already pretty full of herself, so some public humility would have been interesting.

I just saw they referred to it as "conscious uncoupling"... As opposed to separating while you're both asleep and then being surprised when you wake up? That just sounds pretentious to me.

@MrsSCB: I momentarily felt bad for them, and then saw the actual announcement with the instagrammed photo and the phrase "conscious uncoupling" and...no. Ugh. No sympathy. Even her divorce is being being GOOP branded.

@Elderberrygin: seriously, I think my eyes just about fell out of my head from rolling so hard...

So out of the loop I didn't know she was so hated!

Not surprised based on all the stuff i heard about their marriage. Still sucks when a marriage fails.

@winniebee: her website is pretty pretentious and out of touch with reality. She's shot her mouth off over the years saying ridiculous things.

@MrsSCB: I laughed out loud at your "conscious uncoupling" explanation.

I think it's really sad situation & I actually really like her & Goop so feeling pretty out of the loop too. Why all the hate?

I'm not surprised just because they haven't seemed super happy or close in photos over the past few years. I think it's been a long time coming.

I love her, and always have since Great Expectations and Sideways. It's sad, but I know she'll bounce back.

I feel bad for them and for the kids, but I can't really say I'm surprised. Chris Martin doesn't strike me as they kind of guy who would put up with all her hoity-toity nonsense. He seems much more grounded.
Like I know the guy.

@Lolo: fan of GOOP too. Loved A Perfect Murder and Sideways and now The Iron Man franchise.
pomelo / 5257 posts
@Lolo: I don't "hate" her, I more find her entertainingly/embarrassingly out of touch with reality. I mean her list of spring clothing "essentials" added up to $500,000. Come on. I just don't find her relatable.

I'm not surprised when anyone famous gets a divorce. I think there are too many factors that make a successful marriage difficult.

I'm not surprised, she's so pretentious it drives me nuts!

@MrsSCB: conscious uncoupling?!?! Oh my - these eye rolls are so hard they are going to give me a headache. Speschul snowflake, you decided to divorce....like everyone else who decides to divorce.

@littlebug: Agreed. I feel bad for their kids, but I always thought he was too good for her.
pomelo / 5257 posts
@yoursilverlining: exactly. I'm absolutely not taking any pleasure in the split and I feel bad for them and their kids. But let's just call it what it is: a divorce. Plenty of people do it and manage to be amicable and coparent successfully. It just seems so gwyneth to try to brand it into the unique unicorn of divorces.

i feel bad for their kids. and hoped they'd be a hollywood success story, even tho i was never a fan, but eh, not surprised, and does it really much matter?

@MrsSCB: I can't relate to her clothes either. But there's a lot of different markets out there, and she seems to have found one. Plus I think it's great that she started a business and that it seems to have found an audience.
What I don't really understand is how tough people are on women-owned businesses. A guy I know sells luxury car parts online through Google and makes great money. Nobody says, "I can't relate to buying expensive car parts.". In general, nobody cares about any of my guy friends' businesses - even the customer-facing ones in fashion or retail.
I just see so many female entrepreneurs savaged online for selling products that someone doesn't like. I don't like Jessica Simspon all that much, but am continually amazed at how people keep bagging on her while she has built a billion dollar business.
I couldn't see the GOOP link though (it didn't load), so maybe she killed some babies and posted pictures in which case, I take back all of the above.

@mrbee: I'm very supportive of female-owned businesses in general, so while I can only speak for myself personally, TBH I don't really appreciate the insinuation that this is at all related to my (or any of these other ladies') feelings towards women-owned businesses in general. Just because I'm a woman and just because I love seeing strong women out there doing their thing in the business world doesn't mean I have to love every female-headed company just because it's owned by a woman. Me not being a fan of GOOP has nothing to do with Gwyneth being female and is all about GOOP itself. I would feel the same about any man who tried to tell the general public, "Omg, you guys, you HAVE to buy this stuff, it's essential!" and then it was all $200 tshirts or $75,000 cars.

@MrsSCB: sorry, only the first paragraph of my response was in response to your post. I should've been more clear about that, I'm sorry.
In general, I do think people are way harder on female-run businesses. I'm in the tech/media sector and I see it a lot. Women have to be successful *and* likable. I don't think people in general hold men to that standard. Good thing, because a lot of the guy entrepreneurs I know aren't that likable.
As for GOOP, I subscribed for a year but just couldn't relate as I too don't have that kind of money to spend. Did she position the site as aimed at the general public? I always figured it was aimed at women with a lot of class and/or money.

@mrbee: Thanks, I do agree with you about people being harder on female entrepreneurs generally and it drives me crazy. You brought up Jessica Simpson -- a lot of people do seem to have a problem with her, but I own a couple of things from her brand. She has a lot of cute stuff and it's affordable, but I know of people who wouldn't buy an item because it has her name on the tag, even if they think it's cute. That's just ridiculous.
As for Goop, I've always gotten the sense that she's trying to market it as a general lifestyle brand, not a luxury brand. So it's stuff like this: http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/goop-shows-price-living-gwyneth-paltrow/story?id=12616586 that just kind of rubs me the wrong way. She never really seems to acknowledge that her "tips" and "essentials" are really only attainable by the very small portion of the population that has the same kind of disposable income that she does.
