I give the "big gift" from myself and DH and Santa just brings the little stuff.

Well this will be our first Christmas, but my parents just wrote Santa on some gifts and wrote their names on others. But we just believed in the "spirit" of Santa so I knew they were all from my parents. It was just for fun!

All of our presents from Santa were left unwrapped. All of the presents they bought for us or that we bought for each other were wrapped and put under the tree. After we went to sleep on Christmas Eve they sorted the wrapped presents into piles, and put the gifts from Santa in front of our piles. The gifts from Santa were always the big gifts - bikes, dollhouses, etc.

I'm wrapping everything this year though, because I think Sadie will have more fun unwrapping then playing with anything! I'll start leaving unwrapped gifts next year!

I never believed in Santa, so my parents always wrote "from Santa" on all gifts as kind of a tongue-in-cheek kind of thing. I'm thinking we'll just pick a random gift to be from Santa.

Santa always brought most of the "good" stuff, my parents have us a few gifts as well.

Stockings from parents, and all boring stuff (clothes, shoes, etc) from parents. Otherwise, Santa always got all the credit!

Is it awful that I want the really good stuff to be from us so that we get the credit instead of Santa??

@lawbee11: No! I'm always bitter that the fat guy gets all the credit!

Santa gifts the big/good stuff and fills stockings at our house, while mom and dad give the OK things {clothes, shoes, books}.

We usually got something big as well as some smaller stuff from both Santa and my parents -- I'm not sure if they had a method behind it though. We got presents from "Santa" LONG after we knew that everything was really from mom and dad, though! In fact, Santa still gives gifts at my parents' house

Not sure what hubs and I are going to do -- the baby is due so close to Christmas that I don't think we'll bother this year, but we have to figure things out for the future. Hubs grew up in a country where Christmas isn't really celebrated except by a few people in the religious minority, and US Christmas traditions are still sort of bizarre to him. He was just asking me last night if we're "going to lie to the poor kid about Santa nonsense" and if I was disappointed when I found out about the myth (I wasn't. Maybe I was an overly pragmatic kid, but as long as the presents were there, I didn't care where they came from -- actually, it was a relief in a way to be able to really thank my parents for all the gifts, not just some of them). Anyway, it's an ongoing conversation...we'll probably just play it by ear and figure things out as we go.

My thoughts are that the "big" things will be from Santa when she is little (like the one she REALLY REALLY wants that I tell her "Oh, I don't know, you should probably ask Santa".). Oh Man, Christmas is awesome. So excited.

Growing up, all of our gifts were from Santa, and we'd get one from the family pet. My parents *still* write "from Santa" on our large gift. I plan to have all of DD's gifts come from Santa, until she's too old to believe. I want there to be as much magic involved with the holidays as humanly possible.

@lawbee11: I've thought about this, but when I was young and believed in Santa, I never had thoughts of, "Boy, my parents really suck; they don't give me anything for Christmas!" In my mind, my parents told Santa if I was deserving of x or y gift, so in the end, they sort of got the credit. They would regularly get phone calls from "Santa", and I would hear them talking about whether or not I was being good, or what they thought I deserved.
