@MrsSCB: A weekly blowout?! I had to read that tip a few times before I realised she meant a "blowdry". We call them a blowdry here! A blowout is what happens the day after you eat a really hot curry ..... Gwenneth doesn't poop.

@Cherrybee: LOL if she hadn't mentioned hair we could have figured she was promoting a weekly colon cleanse

@MrsSCB: She already has a weekly colon cleanse - it's called GOOP, isn't it?

@MrsSCB: A lot of (most?) lifestyle brands are "aspirational" though... where readers can vicariously experience a lifestyle that is beyond their reach. So I always took her site in that vein. A lot of the most successful parenting websites are also aspirational (perfectly dressed kids with a perfect family and perfect photos), and I can't really relate to those sites either.

I didn't see any statements in that link where she positioned GOOP at the mass market though? That's not really her vibe... she's always done pretty well in those upper class movie roles where she plays the aloof unattainable girl. I didn't buy her as Pepper in Iron Man as the common sense assistant to the billionaire boss! It just didn't feel authentic to me...

@MrsSCB: well that was a pricey fanciful day.

@Cherrybee: I disliked the name GOOP too... until I read that it's some sort of play on her initials. I wasn't a fan of other body part product names (Wii??) at first either, but I think that they tend to stick with you and be memorable.

Surprised she was able to buy it though... it must've cost a fortune! Four-letter domain names are very rare and expensive at this point...

@mrbee: No, I think it's perfectly apt! She empties her colon over the internet every week - why not get straight to the point with the name! I agree with Wii though - yuk! Strangely, though, I did get used to it.....

@Cherrybee: I also thought iPad was the worst name ever... turns out that I suck at naming things, because I have to admit that the name worked out great!

Eh, I'm never really surprised by this stuff since it's not like I know them or something, you know?

DH was shocked though. In our relationship I'm the one who couldn't care less about most celebrities, and he checks TMZ daily. LOL

@mrbee: I agree with you, but I think it's extend to more than just female owned business. I see it a lot with female bloggers and basically anyone "famous". Anyone remotely successful is immediately torn down, and I agree it happens more with women-on-women.

Anyway, in this case: I don't care about GOOP. I've never read the website, not even once. Don't care. I just like her movies, generally speaking.

I feel bad for her kids & I hope her words about it being amicable & positive are true.

I found the blog post accompanying her announcement very troubling. The way it tried to justify divorce as "enlightened" really bothered me. Overall it came off like she was trying to spin the split as something you should aspire to along with everything else she does... As if you are not "conscious" if you believe marriage is for life & don't want to "uncouple."

I thought this encapsulates why so many people think Gwyneth is...let's just say out of touch.

@MoonMoon: I was JUST reading about those comments -- yikes! Yeah 14 hour days suck, but plenty of people work them without the kind of help she has at her disposal and without the long vacations she get between movies. Girl, please.

@MoonMoon: I read that earlier today. I've read plenty of interviews with Gwyneth Paltrow. When GOOP first started I read because I liked her. But then I stopped once I realized that I was definitely not her target audience. She is completely unrelatable and often sounds pretentious to me.

I have been reading about conscious uncoupling in some articles from the therapist who coined it and some others who work with couples on this and it sounds cool, like a great way to end or transition a relationship--from the way the therapists have been talking about it, I dug it, but from what I read on GOOP's page it just seemed like more posturing about how she is so much more evolved.
