@birdofafeather: @chopsuey: thanks He totally has a vehicle capable of making the drive, but 75 is still shut down and there are just too many unknowns on the local roads. He is safe where he is and has everything he needs. Tomorrow will be warmer for much longer . . . !

ETA: gotta melt that ice ice, baby!

Another northerner here hoping everyone in Atlanta is okay!

I have to say that even though, as other's have mentioned, that we're accustomed to worse conditions, during the first snowfall of the season it is pretty much the same as what the south is experiencing. People completely forget how to drive in winter conditions. Hell, even in the middle of it, people still don't know how to drive and there is gridlocks and accidents. It's ridic.

I have to say, though, that last tweet on People, "got NASCAR blood"... I did the biggest eyeroll ever. Sigh.

The traffic and road conditions here are the worst I've ever seen. I have coworkers who had 9 and 11 hour commutes and others who had to sleep at the office. I live in the city, but it still took me 2 hours to go 6 miles home. Part of the problem was that we workers in our office building had no idea that traffic was getting so bad until we were out in it and had to suffer through. We could see the snow falling, and parents were getting notices that schools were closing, so everyone headed out, expecting mid-day traffic volume. I honestly didn't realize just how bad it was until I got home and saw the pictures on the news.

They reported this morning that a little girl was born to a woman who was unable to make it to the hospital. Thankfully, mama and baby are fine! If that had been me, I would have died. Literally. If I had not been in a hospital when I delivered LO, I would have died. Heav-y.

@chopsuey: I don't know how, but there were no fatalities! On a lighter note, I have a bunch of rabbit tracks in my yard!

Just seeing this now - I had no idea how bad it was!
In places like my city, where we get a ton of snow every year, we take for granted how easy it is to just call out the snow plows and salters and sanders, and have things taken care of. I only once remember weather so bad that people were abandoning their cars...and it was just on a small section of highway.
Can't imagine dealing with weather that you're just completely unprepared for. Hope everyone is safe, and home, and toasty warm.
