I know Koreans do this; I'm not sure if it's also done in other Asian cultures? We've decided not to do a bris and I'm feeling like a baby blessing is also not appropriate because it just seems inauthentic for us.
If you did one can I ask what you did, especially if it was smaller or you had a lot of non-Asian guests?

We had a party at home with friends for WJ... just good food, cake, and hanging out! Then my MIL hosted one in NY that the family and my parents came to.
For LMW, we just had a gathering at home with my mom's side of the family since they all live in our state. My mom prepared all the food and I think she brought dduk for a cake.
So in general, just a very informal party... mostly just get together for dinner and show off the baby

@spaniellove: yup, Chinese people do it too!
We also do a one month celebration. I didn't do either and regret it. DH is German/Irish so if we did we would have definitely invited non Asians.

We had a one month celebration for the Chinese side. My mom threw a banquet dinner for Noelle at a Chinese restaurant and she got a lot of red envelopes.
We also celebrated a 100-day baek-il with my Korean in-laws... but it was at home. We just bought some dduk, ate cake, and good homemade Korean food. It was really informal.

@Mrs. High Heels: Is there a particular kind of dduk you have to get or is it okay to just get whatever you think people will eat? I've been afraid of the kind with red beans since I was a kid!

@spaniellove: you can get the pretty rainbow colored cake dduk.. it looks nice and almost everyone likes it!
I don't like dduk! (again, so not Korean!) but I'll eat the rainbow one. I don't like any with beans or chestnut.

we had a rainbow dduk, but i've also seen just the white one too same type of dduk tho. i don't really like the red bean one either!

@spaniellove: We had a small baek-il (just immediate family) for LO. We went out for dinner and had cake and rainbow dduk at home.

My SIL had one, the only thing she told me was she didn't enjoy it as much b/c motherhood was still new and it was nerve wrecking to debut the baby to so many people. And she was self conscious about her weight still.

@snowjewelz: I felt the same way as your SIL. I was still so tired, and adjusting to new motherhood. I was worried all those people would overwhelm the new baby, and it was a 45 min drive out to the restaurant my mom had it at.... I also didn't know any of her friends. The idea of it was stressful, but I sucked it up for the red envelopes. It really wasn't as bad as I imagined and it made my mom happy! Noelle slept through most of it!

@Mrs. High Heels: @snowjewelz: my mom told me if we did a one month celebration. It would be a mini wedding! 8 course dinner at a restaurant. I don't think the red envelopes would have even equaled the restaurant bill!
But I still regret not doing one.

@locavore_mama: Then again if you're going to have an 'event' at a Chinese restaurant, the banquet menu is standard haha. Maybe for your next LO
