Ever since my husband found out that James Gandolfini died of a heart attack at 51, he has been exercising every morning. He says, "I don't want to die at 51."
Well, whatever works, I guess?
Have you ever been scared into being healthier?

@mediagirl: yup. My BIL dying suddenly in his sleep prompted my DH's whole family to go get a physical and talk about their cholesterol. Now his whole family is on cholesterol medicine, including him. ILs are much more pro-active about eating healthy and exercising now.
It's sad that it takes a death to make people realize that they need to be healthier. But certainly, whatever works.

I was diagnosed with a heart condition a little over a year ago (at 36 weeks pregnant) and I have an uncle who died of a massive heart attack at 36 years old.
It scared me pretty good.

I have a family history of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and cancer. I do my best to stay active and healthy to keep my risk low.

@evansjamie: have you had your cholesterol check? We eat super healthy and DH is very active but unfortunately you can only do so much to lower bad cholesterol. Medication is the only effective way.

@regberadaisy: Yes, I have it checked at my yearly physical. I'm trying to stay on top of it because I would rather not be on medication if I don't have to be.

Major heart issues in my family. Dad has had 2 heart attacks and has a defribilator, his dad had one in his 30's and died in his 49's, my dads sister in her 30's, his mom died of one, mt moms dad died of one.....both my parents have high cholesterol and blood pressure. I'm sure it's bad genes and bad environment buuut I take care of myself partially because of that!

@evansjamie: That's great!!! Good for you.
Unfortunately bad cholesterol levels is genetic and his are high. Def stay off if you can. Once you're on you have to stay on for life.

After I started doing some research into it, reading food labels and realizing I had no idea what most of the ingredients were scared me.

i got mono this past april. i am never sick. it really scared me into reevaluating how much of my time i spend working. hoping for a better balance when school starts back in august.
several of DH's uncles died in their 50s due to heart problems. in all cases i think it was a combination of genetics and the fact that they didn't take care of themselves at all. FIL is on heart meds & always goes to his checkups & DH tries to stay active etc.

My MIL is always posting different things that can give you cancer. She had breast cancer so she's pretty paranoid.

@regberadaisy: yeah, my husband found that out. He stopped taking his for a while and with some other triggers, he had a heart attack at 30.
