It's never happened to me, but 2 little punks got into DH's car last night!
We have video cameras right above where our car's parked so the guys were caught right away. My car's parked right next to DH's but I guess they figured they weren't gonna get much out of my mommymobile.

Oh what a pain. Seriously A PAIN!!!
Twice back home in MN. One time they didnt even get anything besides my backpack. Everything else was thrown about the road I was parked on.
The other time someone just smashed my window. I worked at a gambling establishment and I assumed someone was pissed because I didnt deal them a winning hand or something because there were things in the car of value that was left. Nothing was taken at all.

Someone smashed my window and stole a discman and CDs. This was in '07 and my '99 car didn't have a CD player, so the discman plugged into the tape deck. I was most offended that they went through the CDs and took what they liked, then left the rest snapped in half on the floorboard!

No, but my brother's car was stolen. The insurance company found it a month later and it was completely stripped. DH and my brother were both a little heart broken. It was DH's first car and he put a lot of work/money into the car and my brother just loved that car so much.

not mine, but dh's was (parked at my old apt) and they stole his custom radio, speakers, tvs, etc. :((( dh is still recuperating from the loss.

Oh, that stinks. I'm sorry you have to deal with that, but glad the guys were caught!
My car has never actually been broken into, but the wheels were stolen off of it once.

My car was broken into at a concert years and years ago. They stole all my CDs. I was so mad!

Yes, when I lived with my friend. I noticed it wasn't locked and I just thought I forgot to lock it. Then I saw the driver seat was pushed all the way back. They didn't take anything, all I had in the car was some sunglasses. I think too they for scared cause my friends fiancé was working late, so we think he came home, that is why they pushed the seat back.

Someone once took the big cup of change that I kept in my cup holder. It was probably like, $5 worth of change, maybe a bit more, and it was really the only thing I had in the car TO steal.
However, last night my car was parked on the street, as usual, and someone totally sideswiped it and smashed in the driver's side, then drove off and didn't leave a note or anything. The car had to be towed to the shop, it wasn't even drive-able. Total bummer. People are jerks.

My husbands did and his DSLR was in it. So we had to pay out of pocket for a camera and new window.
When we were visiting California we stopped in San Francisco for the day and all of our road trip items were in the car - including two laptops. Stupid parking garage had zero surveillance.

So sorry to hear, but at least they got caught! I had my window smashed in a mall parking lot. They didn't take anything. The car was actually full of baby gifts and supplies for a baby shower I was hosting. Guess they weren't interested in that stuff!

My car has never been broken into but when my brother had my old car after I moved, someone stole things out of it. And DH's car was broken into in college. He had a jeep and then actually ripped through the canvas (you could easily get in by unzipping the window) and stole his sound bar that he had gotten for graduating high school.

dh's was back when he had a car, but once was bc he forgot to lock the car and his ipod was in plain site. that's just asking for it!

i grew up in the "hood" from K - 5th grade. during that time, my mom's car got broken into a lot.
i've been fortunate not to have that happen in any recent years (KNOCK ON WOOD!!).

A few years ago our car was broken into in our driveway. There was absolutely nothing in it to steal, and since the only thing damaged was the lock, we though, "eh, annoying but whatever."
Then my husband remembered his work tools were in the trunk and when he went to check that we realized they had SET OUR TRUNK ON FIRE! The plastic lining was totally melted, fusing the whole thing shut. WTF.
When we called the police to report it they said there had been a string of car break-ins and thefts in our neighbourhood overnight. They never did catch anybody.

Not our car *touch wood* maybe because it's not particularly expensive nor do we ever leave anything valuable on display. My Dad's car, much nicer, got broken into several times... they tried to take the radio but never got it out.

Mine hasn't, but DH's window got smashed not long ago & his gps was stolen. Once, my ex's window was broken & they stole his stereo out of the dashboard. He put plastic on the window til it got fixed & the next morning when he went to leave for work the car was dead- they'd broken in though the broken window, popped the hood & stole the BATTERY right out of the car!

Oh yes. When I lived in Philly, someone smashed one of the "small" side windows on my Honda. They opened compartments I didn't even know my little Honda had...but since I keep absolutely nothing of value in my car, they had nothing to steal.
Thank goodness they didn't do any additional senseless damage, though. @mrsmac Setting your *trunk* on fire?! That would have been worse.

Not mine (knock on wood) but my maid of honor's was broken into on the day of my wedding like an hour before the ceremony. We were literally loading things into the car and had stepped away for two minutes and came back to find the window smashed -- her purse and GPS were gone. What's crazy is that our rings were in still in the console!!! Poor thing rewrote her reception speech from memory since it had been in her purse.

Mine did. My car literally cost like 500 bucks but I had a $300 stereo in it and they stole it from a mall parking lot. I cried!

Only once. I keep my car pretty much empty. Even the one time they got in, the only thing they took was my honours thesis, ironically a geographical analysis of theft of/from vehicle vs. recovery sites in the lower mainland.
