It seems like this is one of the biggest kid issues. Ear infections. I had them terribly as a child and still get them now as an adult. My daughter has been (knock on wood) lucky so far and hasn't had even one.
Has your lo had an ear infection? How many times?

Between 6 months and 15 months he had quite a few. We were one infection away from a referral to an ENT. Thankfully he hasn't had one since then.

I had them terribly when I was little but DD who is 2 hasn't had one yet... I'm beginning to wonder if she's had them and we just haven't known??? Is that possible? Like maybe she's just got a really high pain tolerance or they dont' bug her? IDK.

Dd (3yo) twice. I think both before the age of 2. Ds(16mo) none! Hope it stays that way!

@Ajsmommy: I think it's possible to have asymptomatic ones - my LO was at the doctor for a completely unrelated reason, and she looked in his ears and said he currently had an ear infection in both ears, even though it didn't seem to be affecting him at all!

For my oldest, yes - she's on her 2nd set of tubes. My youngest had a few when she was younger, but so far she's been ok.

DS had 5 from 3 months to 8 months old, but we've been clear since (1 year now)/ We were also just about to go to the ENT and go ahead with tubes, but he hasn't had one since, so hoping it stays that way. *knock on wood.

We are on our fourth antibiotic in about two months for LO2 (12 months). The older kiddo (4) has only had one. We consult with an ENT on Thursday. DH was prone to them as a child and I was as well. I think LO1 lucked out!

Tons - DS1 is on his second set of tubes. He's had two infections with the tubes.
DS2 got his 1st set two months ago. No infections since then.

Neither of my kids have ever had one.
DD will be 5 in March.
DS 3 this Saturday!

Both kids have had a fair number. ~5 for my 2.5 year old and 3 for my 1 year old.

@MamaG: He got his 1st set at 17 months. They had fallen out within the year. He got his second set about a year later. They've been in about 8 months now, and I'm worried they have moved. At his last infection, the urgent care doc mentioned it looked like it had moved. I just haven't gone to see his pediatrician as a follow up. I think I'm dreading the bad news.

Ugh...I don't even know the number...for either of them.
DS(3.5 yrs) just got his second set of tubes.
DD(2yrs) is on her first(and hopefully only) set of tubes.

@MamaG: my son is on his second set. He had his first set at 14 months and just got his second set at 3.5 yrs. after his first set fell out, he just kept having infection after infection. So he definitely needs then in order to be infection free.

@regberadaisy: They can clear without anitbiotics. It's my understanding that its the fluid that is infected. The meds clear the infection, but not the fluid. The fluid will eventually clear. So even if left untreated, the infected fluid could clear on its own.

@GrapeCrush: Thank you. I'm just trying to prepare myself for what might be ahead for us. It seems the younger they get them, the more likely it is they might need more than one set.

Yes, at least once. We tried to wait it out and not give antibiotics but it got worse and the pediatrician said it was developing into a sinus infection. So we had to put him on the meds and it seemed like it starting helping quickly.

@regberadaisy: At least in the case of my LO, the pediatrician thought it was caused by a virus (so antibiotics wouldn't have worked.)

Just one, thank goodness- though it was a bad one and her poor little ear drum ruptured.
I had them a ton as a kid and had one as an adult, so I know how painful they can be (and that your ear drum can rupture and it isn't that bad). I was one infection away from tubes as a kid and my older sister had them.

2 that we know of, but they were bad....double ear infections with super high temperatures (105.9!) that ended us in the ER both times.

@MamaG: Just wanted to add that DS1's infections always cleared but the fluid never did. So basically he heard as if he was underwater. All that can impact their speech and coordination. My nephew started walking with a week of getting his tubes.

None at 1 year. I never really had them growing up either although my brother did. Plus he had a bad one his senior year of high school where he was out of school for a week or two.

LO has had four or five, I think. It's terrible that I have lost count. They said if she had another one anytime soon, we'd talk about tubes, but so far so good.

LO2 (15 months) had 2 before she was 4 months old, but none since. LO1 (3) just got diagnosed with his first one today. He was so miserable.

I've lost count...6, 7, 8, maybe? But only once since tubes, and it cleared in 3 days with just drops

@MamaG: I hope you can get tubes and get some help! Also, for what it's worth, my DD's have stayed in place for 6 months now. I was sorta dreading them falling out, but every time we go in, they still look good *fingers crossed*
@Mamasig: oh no. I hope that you can get it resolved quickly.
@GrapeCrush: I was surprised how gunky the infections were with the tubes. I wasn't expecting it to look like boogers leaked everywhere! She had a lot of fluid build-up pre-tubes, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
Just to add: I was so afraid of tubes, but like others told me, they were life changing and amazing. I don't know why we waited so long!!
