I feel like everyone on IG and family on FB decorated over the weekend. We are waiting till after Thanksgiving to put the tree up.

No! Personally, I don't like to de-emphasize Thanksgiving . . . which I have always preferred to Christmas (I think because it's more about just being together with family and friends without the added pressure of gifts!).

No, not yet. All my Christmas stuff is in storage and DH would have to drive out and dig it out. Maybe the day after thanksgiving? It's tough though because DH works thanksgiving and black Friday.

No! We'll start the weekend after Thanksgiving. I don't like having Christmas decorations up before that.

I always wait until after Thanksgiving, too. @Adira: @Smurfette: What are you guys going to do differently since we'll have little grabby hands this year? I can guaranty the boys will try to pull up on the tree and grab ornaments, so I'm definitely going to have to do a few modifications to the tree.

@Mrs. Blue: We are going to just do nonbreakable ornaments on the bottom and hope for the best. She is pretty good about listening when we say No to something. I am more worried about the presents then ornaments. She loves paper!

It definitely feels like people are decorating earlier this year! We're still decorated for Fall until Thanksgiving, then I pull out all the stops for Christmas!

I have! I'm a huge Christmas fan and was going to wait until the week of Thanksgiving (we're going out of town for Thanksgiving so I couldn't do it the day after) but our tree was just beckoning to me! It's our first year in our own apartment being able to decorate, so it was very exciting and special for me. For me, having Christmas decorations up is part of the "holiday season", which includes Thanksgiving--I know not everyone sees it this way, but for me, including Thanksgiving in this season helps the whole season be more about gratitude, excitement, family, and love, than about presents and consumerism.
And no grabby hands for us this year...we'll have a 10-month-old next Christmas though, so we'll definitely be putting all our non-breakable ornaments lower on the tree that year and all the breakable ones up top (luckily a lot of our ornaments are unbreakable!).

We are actually going to do some stuff next weekend. We are going out of town for Thanksgiving, so if we waited until after, the tree wouldn't go up until December 7/8 and we would be taking it down 2.5 weeks later!

@Smurfette: good point. I think I won't put presents out this year. While I'm saving one present, the other kid will just rip Ito a different one.

We usually wait until after thanksgiving but we will be going on vacation the day after! So we are probably going to put ours up tonight.

@Mrs. Blue: @Smurfette: Same as you all - no breakable ornaments at the bottom of the tree! Plus nothing too heavy in general in case he's able to knock things off from higher! And I probably won't put any gifts under the tree until Christmas Eve, haha!

Just a little!
I painted the living room so I had to remove everything from the mantle (or is it mantel??) and while it was down I figured, eh, why not. So my mantle does have Christmas stuff - the tree and everything else will be after Thanksgiving

We are staying with my parents for the majority of December, so we won't be decorating our place. I plan to help decorate my parents over Thanksgiving week.
@Mrs. Blue: I'm going to try something an old woman told me to do - put the tree on a table and put bells around it for an alarm. Our tree is 6.5 ft, so I plan on putting it on a small side table (tying it to it) and putting bells on the tree skirt I'm making for it. That way the majority of the tree is out of reach.

@rawrasaur: I've actually considered putting ours on a chest that is in our living room, but I hadn't thought of the bell alarm system! That's kind of genius!

As you may know from IG, DH and I talked about decorating before we travel for Thanksgiving since when we get back it will already be December and my sister will be here with us for a day and I want to pretend like we will have some Christmastime together. Well, he said we should wait, so we did. But, I came home from work last week and he bought us a new tree and ornaments and other decorations and set everything up as a surprise for P and I. I love it.

Nope. However, I'd like to start soon since I host an Xmas party early in December for my husbands company.

Ha I haven't even put up our fall decorations yet. At this point I think I'll just skip those and decorate for Christmas the weekend after Thanksgiving.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@Mrs. Blue: @rawrasaur: My parents put ours on a tree (more for height). I loved it because there is a lot more room at the bottom for presents!

Not yet-- we have A's party this wknd and some fall stuff out for it-- so we'll probably get started thanksgiving wknd!

DH wanted so bad to decorate last night. Not the tree, but the lights and trinkets we put up. We didn't, but probably will this week. He loves Christmas.

We did on Sunday! We don't have Thanksgiving here (sob, it's my favourite!) and I won't be going home for it, so we put the decorations up a bit early to make our place happy and festive, which will hopefully alleviate a bit of the homesickness.
Also, as it is now summer here and beastly hot, I need something to make it feel like Christmas! With the air con blasting, I can sort of trick myself into believing I'm home...not really, but better than nothing. And really, I was too excited about seeing LO with the Christmas decorations this year to wait any longer. Normally though, we are 'weekend after Thanksgiving' people when it comes to decorating - just not this year!
ETA: we don't have much for decorations - just our tree and a felt tree for LO. No outside lights or anything like that unfortunately.

I JUST literally pulled out Christmas decorations from the attic! I've swapped out a few Halloween decor for Christmas/Winter ones. We've never hosted anything for Thanksgiving yet, so we have very little "Fall" themed decor. The little bit of Fall stuff we have is still out.

Nope. It's all about the brown and orange in our home right now. I usually decorate for Christmas on the first Sunday after Thanksgiving.

Nope! I love fall and my fall decor and I want to enjoy it as long as possible. I do Christmas decorations after Thanksgiving.

Nope I wait until december, we aren't going all out this year (boo!) but I'm planning to stock up on decorations when they go on clearance after christmas so I'll go overboard next year instead

@Smurfette: We started, but only because we will be out of town the next two weekends!

We just got a note in our door from our HOA about decorating for Christmas today! They are restricting us to decorate no more than 2 weeks before and it all has to be taken down 1 week after Christmas!!! WTF. I'm seriously annoyed. Who only has their decorations up for 3 weeks!? UGH
That's the outside decorations of course, but it includes window decor and wreaths. Bunch of scrooges. Bah humbug!
pomelo / 5326 posts
I'm planning on getting a few decorations out this week. At least I'd like to decorate the mantel. We don't get our tree until mid-December.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: What?!!! That is not cool.
We knew that with our schedules and our 5 month old, decorating would take us forever... So we've started doing things here and there. Hopefully we'll finish before Christmas
nectarine / 2636 posts
@grizz: It really sucks! The earliest that we could put anything outside is Dec 11. Who seriously waits that long to put up lights?? It's not even worth climbing on the roof to do it!

Usually by this time of year, I am antsy to decorate and my husband has to hold me back, but this year, I just can't get into it... Hopefully I will get in the spirit by Thanksgiving.
I did order LO's stocking, so maybe that counts for something?
