I have walked through first class, so that's the closest I've ever been to first class. Ha!
One of these days, I want to be upgraded. While we were on our honeymoon, we tried to drop the hint when we were checking in, but no deal. Turns out the flight attendant on our flight told us we should have said something earlier. Doh! Maybe if we go for our anniversary, we'll try it again.

Yes - to and from our honeymoon as a gift from my aunt (who has a gazillion reward miles). DH is flying first class tonight but it's on his company's tab.

Just business but it was already awesome! We were supposed to fly British Airways first but I ended up changing our flight to make it more convenient and only business was available for our dates. It was still amazing!

Nope! DH gets upgraded all the time for business flights. But every time we fly together the plane is full so we don't get bumped up.

Yes! Last week actually! 
On our trip back from Mexico. We didn't upgrade on the way down, and DH is 6'4" and his legs are soooo long so they were really squished on the way down there. So on the way back we splurged and upgraded! Worth every penny!

We always fly first class when going overseas to my home country.
13+h is too long to sit uncomfortably and now especially (with a child).
Eta: I haven't been in 5 yes so I have never actually taken a child.

Just once, on a domestic flight, because I volunteered to be bumped from an overbooked flight. I could not afford to book first class tickets!

Not first class, but I was bumped to business class when I was pregnant. Bless those sweet flight attendants who happened to just see me rubbing my legs and offer it up. It was wonderful, although a bit awkward to walk past a gentleman who'd been returned to his seat after getting caught trying to jump up to all the empty rows. Having all that glorious room to stretch was far worth any glares from him, though.

Once when I was a kid - they overbooked coach, so we got bumped up to first class. Unfortunately, I was too young to really appreciate it or need the larger seat (which is pretty much the only thing I remember about it.) I've heard people mention this happening to them when checking in...but at our airport you don't even see a real person to check in, you just use a kiosk that prints everything out for you, then you go through security and to your gate. So I don't see how it would be possible for us to get an upgrade while checking in.

yep all the time. DH is a diamond medallion member (Delta) so he always gets upgraded. we use vouchers and miles to upgrade when I travel solo or we travel as a family.

Twice, once by accident with my dad. I have no idea how that happened, but it was a short flight. The other time my husband got the upgrade but gave it to me and DS flew on my lap. It was nice to have the extra room!

@CupQuakeWalk: @mrsjyw: Is it crazy expensive to fly first class overseas?? We used to travel overseas during the summer months when I was still in grade school. We always said we'd fly first class one day bc the long flight makes it worth it. Then we look at the $$ and it's like just kidding! 
I flew first class on a small plane during my internship, but it was for a very short flight so the only difference was I got a beverage when I boarded the plane. No meal or anything. I'd love to fly first class and enjoy all those luxuries one day though!!

@Alivoo01: yes international first is very pricey.
To give you an idea, I was pricing out flights for Seattle to London. These were all the cheapest fares for the particular dates I was travelling. All include taxes and fees.
Economy $1300/per person
Business ~$7500/per person
First ~$15000/per person
I don't know how anyone who isn't super rich flies international first and pays cash for the whole fam!

Only once! We splurged on first class primarily because there were no other available seats, but it turned out to be an awesome choice. We were flying with a 5 week-old and it was a downright pleasant flight.

DH has a ton of miles for work and gets upgraded often when he flies so I have benefited from this a few times. We used his miles to fly to/from our Maui honeymoon in first class and it was amazing!!

I got bumped up to bizzzzzness on etihad airways which is super balling. I was nothing but a dirty backpacker at the time so I'm not sure why they saw me for to upgrade but I wasn't about to argue. It was THE BEST 12 hours of my life. I didn't even want to sleep cause I didn't want to miss one single second of the experience. I'll never experience it again unless we win the lottery so I ordered so much food, drank champagne, spent ages in the huge bathroom (& stole the bliss toiletries), and generally just hung out like the boss I will never be in real life!

On our honeymoon. We had a 16 hour flight to South Africa--and that flight was the best one I have ever taken!! I loved first class...I can only dream of flying it again I think tickets were like 12k a person? DH's boss paid for it as a wedding gift to us, which was insanely generous.

Yup. When I was young we did first class to Hawaii because my dad said there was no way he was sitting in coach with two kids for 13 hours!! And then in high school my dad and I did a Europe trip where we flew first class every where (he had a ton of miles from business travel). And hubs and I have upgraded a few times but we never book first class, we wait until the day of the flight when you can sometimes upgrade for really cheap (like $100 per person).

I've done it a couple of times. With United reward flights, sometimes the cheap miles tickets for economy are all gone, so the expensive economy tickets cost the same miles as the cheap first class tickets and we get the first class tickets. DH also gets upgraded periodically and he will trade with me if we are traveling together.

We flew to Europe business class! We were using buddy passes from someone who worked for Delta, and when you use those you get upgraded if there are seats available. It was pretty awesome.
We've also been on private chartered flights with his company. We used to live where they're headquartered, and the partners always chartered a flight to and from the annual company trip, and we were able to get on it a couple of times.

Ya. Back when I used to fly,y dad always flies us first class. To me a plane seat is a plane seat, but I can't deny my love for those warm towels!
