Childbirth was the first time I stayed overnight. When I was 18 months old I fell into a box fan and nearly tore off my pinkie toe. I have a vivid memory of riding to the hospital sitting in the front seat in my mom's lap with her holding a brown paper towel to my foot, and then of my parents + two nurses trying to hold me down while the doctor sewed it back on. But I don't think I stayed overnight, so I count childbirth as the first time.

I fell off a deck when I was two and had appendicitis in 7th grade....
So I guess childbirth was the third time for me?

First time I stayed overnight, though I've been in for swallowing rat poison, 2 car accidents, a really bad UTI, ovarian pain, and alcohol poisoning (oops!).

I was admitted for an ear infection when I was 12. I had outpatient surgery at 23 and then 3 weeks later had my appendix removed and was admitted.

I had been to the ER several times, and spent a few nights in for major surgery when I was 20 (I had a tumour on my diaphragm that was removed). My c-section was a cake walk compared to the recovery from major thoracic surgery.

Wa jn the hospital for preterm labor for 4 days around 30 weeks

No. I have been in several time (appendix, foot fusion/bone graft surgery, tonsils/adenoids, a few ER trips for broken bones, falls requiring stitches, car accidents etc). The worst was when I was in college and I was admitted for over a week after traveling outside of the country and contracting Dengue fever. I thought I was dying and signed a DNR. I spent another week at home recovering before return back to school. I spent over a month before my hospital stay getting progressively sicker, not being able to eat anything including water and seeing doctor after doctor until thing finally came to a head with a 104+ fever.

An overnight stay for a broken arm when I was 9. Then I didn't set foot in a hospital (even to visit other people!) until I was in labour!

I haven't had to stay overnight ever but had pneumonia last summer and went to the ER. It was the first time I ever had an IV and I was terrified!!

My first delivery was also my first hospital stay. A year later I had appendicitis and another year later I had another baby.

Nope. Had many, many stays as a child/teenager. Went through sudden kidney failure on christmas day when I was 10, had a kidney transplant from my dad when I was 12 and then had complications resulting from the transplant for several years after. I've had a really long healthy stretch and hadn't been in the hospital for 5 years until my emergency csection in December!

Nah, i was there as a child for a round of flu, been to the ER a few times, and I've had a few outpatient procedures. Hospitals don't freak me out

I was in the hospital once about 2 weeks before I got pregnant for some crazy insane stomach pain, I had to stay overnight but it wasn't too bad.
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
I basically lived in the hospital as a kid. I had a rare intestinal disorder that required 3 surgeries when I was 6-7 years old (including a colostomy). Needless to say, doctors and hospitals really freaked me out for a looooong time.

I haven't given birth, but I stayed in the hospital overnight when I had my tonsils removed. I was around 12.

When I was 22 I got pneumonia and ended up in the hospital for 3 nights. I'm REALLY hoping it will be different with childbirth because I thought it was pretty bad. They were always coming in to check on me through out the night which made it impossible to sleep. If my insurance covered it I would seriously consider a home birth for this reason.

Yes, in 2011 I was admitted to the hospital for 3 days because I had a really bad bacterial infection.

Hm... not really. I had to go to an urgent care hospital when I didn't realize I was having an allergic reaction to penicillin. However, I didn't stay there long and the misdiagnosed me.
I've been to the hospital a lot though, to visit people. They don't really intimidate me, but maybe I'll think different once I'm actually there.

Yup.
2x for broken ankle
1x for broken hand
1x for possible broken neck
1x for stomach pains
1x for overnight sleep study
2x for knee surgery
And, of course, labor
... I think that's it.
