For example, if a coworker thought your name was "Ron" but it was really "Don" or if someone thought you were a student but you were really a teacher. Did you ever find yourself in a situation where you didn't correct the person right away and find yourself annoyed you didn't speak up when you should've?

I have been a nanny for a long time and 99.5% of the time I correct people when they assume I am the mother. If it's a little old lady in the street who says something like "be good for your mom" etc I usually let it go. Of course once it turned out to be the children's librarian and I had to set the record straight but it wasn't a big deal thankfully!
I still have family spell my nickname wrong though but I don't really do anything about that aside from making sure I sign the next five things with my nickname as opposed to my given name.

Yup. Our contractor has been calling me the wrong name for 6 weeks. Hey man, I'm signing the checks here, get it right!! lol

I had sort of the reverse thing happen. A friend/co-worker was taking classes to become a pilates instructor. I kept asking her how her 'yoga' classes were going. Finally after weeks of her not correcting me she finally does. I tell her "why didn't you say something earlier!" I have no problem correcting people off the bat.

Yup. I tend to let things slide the first few times but then feel even more awkward when I have to correct them.

People misspell my name all the time, and I usually never correct them (esp at work... my name is spelled correctly right there in the "To" box!!)
This reminds me of Parks & Rec where Jerry reveals that his name is actually "Gary" but he didn't want to correct his boss when he first started, so they called him "Jerry" for years.

@Freckles: We had run into her one day at the library but I thought she was just another patron and she said something about picking books to read with mom. Two weeks later we went back and she was doing story time and remembered us. I don't think it was a big deal that I hadn't mentioned it before but I felt strange telling her after the fact that I wasn't the mom.

Yes! We're in this situation right now. A neighbor thinks LO's name is Winston (it's Finn).
It has happened twice now. The first time he said it, we were out for a walk and we both thought he was talking to DH (but his name is Juan...) It was as we were passing his house and he was getting our attention, so we didn't really realize until after we walked by and both of us were like "Did he just say Winston?!" This last time he clearly directed it at LO, as he was in the Beco and he said "Winston looks so cozy!" I should have said something, but I didn't. Now I don't know what to say!

A teacher at playschool keeps writing A's name with two Ls on artwork etc, I'm always right there and should have said something the first time but I guess I missed my chance. Not a big deal really.

@BadgerMom: That just happened to us! Two neighbors thought Xander's name was Benjamin. The first time, one neighbor was just like "Hi Benjamin!" and Hubs and I were like "Who's she talking to?" And then another neighbor came over and was all "Benjamin this, Benjamin that" clearly talking about our son! So the next time we saw either of them and they called him Benjamin, I corrected them!
