When I worked at Starbucks years ago, I saw this happen a lot!
Once at Chik-fil-a, the person in front of me paid for mine, so I paid for the person behind me.
Apparently in Houston, it happened 67 times one night at a Chik-fil-a!
This just gives me another reason to go to Starbucks this afternoon...to be nice to someone!
ETA: We had one lady, when I worked at Starbucks, buy a $10 gift card on a regular basis and tell me to pay for as many people behind her that I can with it!

I've never had this happen to me, nor have I done it for someone else (as in, at a drive thru)....I should though!

I always want to but forget. And then I think about it an hour later and tell myself ill do it next time. Drive-thrus must fluster me or something.

Haven't done it expect if I knew the person (it's happened a few times that my neighbor or a friend has been behind me by coincidence).

Never done it at a drive thru but in college my friends and I would often be at IHOP after a late night and whenever we saw an elderly person siting alone we would pick up their check.
I've done this a few times when I see a military person at the store...there's a local meat and produce store and the storeowner and he pays half whenever someone offers to pay for a military persons groceries
