Holy freakin moly!!! That sure sounds like a lot... I've never had it done though... do you have friends or neighbors you can ask for referrals? Maybe you can find an individual or a contractor who can give you a more reasonable quote?

that sounds like a lot! exterior house (we live in a colonial) quotes we got were around 2-3K... interior should be way less!!!

That seems like a lot. I once painted professionally and got paid $10 an hour, and supplies are not that expensive...

I just asked DH and he thinks it was close to $5000 (including paint and supplies). Our house is about 2,000 sq. ft, 4 bd/2ba. This included painting the whole entire interior of the house with doors, base trim, and crown molding. We even used my friend's non-licensed contractor, because all the quotes I was getting from licensed painters were close to $5K w/out any paint.

Our painters charge about $500-$700 per room for one coat of primer and two coats of color.

We have..... but my sil's dad did it so we got the family discount. I don't know how much those things cost.

We had the majority of our home painted right before we moved in. House is a 3br, 2.5 bathroom and we paid but $2500. We got quotes up to $4000 though!!!!

The paint itself costs that much here! Houses are cheap, but paint is like gold in this country! Hiring someone to do it is subject to the normal 30% tax, though I think we can get 50% off of labor through a govt incentive. Bleh, it's still way too much.

We bought the paint and material ourselves, and were charged a few hundred. This was back in 2009.

That actually sounds reasonable but i don't know where you live and how big your house is. When we got our basement professionally painted, we had a Groupon coupon and we still ended up paying about $750 for maybe about 600 sq ft worth? They did proper prep work (sanding, patching, etc.), 2 coats and used BM's Aura line.

You'd pay less if you get college painters, but i really think you get what you pay for.

@Andrea: I was going I say the same that it's probably skewed because chopsuey is in metro Atlanta.

Does P not have time to paint? We would never pay someone to paint! Good thing my husband is a good painter bc I suck!

We had our kitchen/living/great room/foyer/hallway painted and it cost us $1100 including supplies. There is a lot of wall space becuase we have vaulted ceilings and there was a ton of cutting to do around all the kitchen cabinets and stuff.

IMO it was worth paying for because the pro did it in 2 days, had the scaffolding he needed to do it quickly, and DH and I didn't have one single argument over it getting done.

Did that price include any prep work? I wouldn't recommend automatically going with the cheapest painter possible, because our house was clearly painted by an unskilled painter and it shows - the corners have layers of gunk in them, there's roller lint in some places, the spackle wasn't sanded down, it's awful. So to properly paint our home (3100 sq ft not including basement) would cost at least $5000, not including paint.

@HabesBabe: Yes it was hideous. When DH showed me our house online before I saw it in person, I recoiled because of all the wallpaper. But when I saw it in person, I somehow saw past all of the crazy wallpaper!
