no, but i don't have a gender preference. if i could select healthy embryos i would, but i don't see a purpose in selecting what type of genitalia they'll have.

I totally would if there was a genetic issue that I would pass to a child of one sex but not the other.

I think if I could guarantee a girl, DH would be on board for another baby. He really wants a girl and I think is nervous about two boys. We're not decided if we'll have another.

I would opt for a girl. I'd love to have one of each and feel like I could be done if I didn't feel like trying for a third.

No. I am happy about the possibility of giving DD a sister relationship with #2, but would love a son, just the same. I think we'll end up with three kids, but I'm still a-okay with three girls.

I wouldn't do that. If I could press a magical button before conception and have a specific gender, I might do that.

I'd do it. If it were like....$100. Which of course will never happen.

@Mrs. Jacks: I agree. I wouldn't go through IVF solely to pick the gender unless there was a genetic issue that would only affect one gender.

I just think it's an extreme thing to do as my understanding of IVF is that it's no walk in the park. Now if one were doing IVF anyway, that's a slightly different story but I still feel a little bit weird about it.

If i was already going through IVF and had, say, two girls at home, I'd totally pick a boy and consider it a perk of IVF. I wouldn't do IVF *just* to do gender selection, though. Doesn't really phase me.

I don't think it's genetically altering the outcome. I know someone with twin girls through IVF and they just want a son. They can't have a baby naturally (complications), so they are able to choose. So why not, if they are going to do IVF anyway?

I can see certain situations where it's ideal to gender select (like, you need an heir for the royal throne? lol). Not necessary, but I wouldn't judge.

i've always wanted a girl, like very badly, but i don't think i would do any actual procedures to get one! whatever i get, it was meant to be. My first (and only atm) is a boy and the more time i spend with him, the more i think i would be okay having a second boy anyway.

@marionberry: same, except I'd opt for a boy. I don't want to get into the situation where we are considering a third child just because we are hoping to get a boy.

I wouldn't do it.

I wouldn't go through IVF just to pick the gender just because it wouldn't work for us financially, but if I had a choice I would definitely choose the gender of my next child. If I had to go through IVF and I was given an option, I would definitely select a specific gender.

If I was doing IVF anyway and all the embryos looked similar (as in the girl ones looked just as viable as the boy ones), then I would totally do it! Why not, right??

But I wouldn't go through IVF JUST to be able to choose the gender.

I definitely would not do this. But I also would never consider IVF either.
