Any one really health insurance savvy?

My ultrasound was not in-network. I didn't look it up beforehand, because there is only one place in town that does them. It looks like the nearest in-network provider is 3 hours away.

Is there anything I can do about that? It's a new insurance company so I think they just don't have very many contracts with providers established. But the ultrasound was almost $600 and I'd prefer not having to pay cash for the whole thing....
