I'm 16w6d and I was woken up twice with bad indigestion or acid reflux. It's still continuing throughout today.
What did you take for it?

Tums! But you're not supposed to take more than 4500mg of calcium carbonate per day, I think. My OB said Zantac is also fine.

I had really bad heartburn with DD. I was buying so much Zantac my drugstore started sending me coupons!! I finally mentioned it to my OB who gave me a prescription for Zantac - didn't even know that was an option!
This time the moment I felt heartburn I got a prescription from my dr and have been taking it daily since

It was about that time it got really bad for me, too. One baby was really high under my ribs and he was giving me unbearable heartburn. I lived on Tums for a long time, before finally complaining to my dr. She put me on a daily pIll, but I can't remember now what it was! I also took liquid antacid which worked better than the tums.

Famotidine, which is apparently pepcid. The MFM OB gave me a prescription last time, which just expired so I emailed my midwives about 5 minutes ago about getting more. I only take it once a day instead of the usual twice, but they said to bump it up if I needed to.

Tums until the very end when I couldn't take it anymore. Then I was told I could take anything OTC and went with omeprazole. It was a lifesaver!

@marionberry: I usually have omeprezole in my purse that was prescribed to me when I was in the hospital with hyperemesis. I don't take it regularly. I must have taken it out of my purse and now I'm struggling.

@bluestriped bee: My understanding is that it only works if you take it regularly but I know there are concerns about taking it earlier in pregnancy. You can get it OTC pretty cheap.

The extra strength Pepcid twice a day without fail. Took a few days to really kick in and be effective but I cannot do without

I take zantac daily when I'm not pregnant, and the doctor said it was fine to continue it. When I flare up I add a dose of gas-X or tums.

Zantac worked best of me! (Or actually I switched to the off-brand Zantac, with the same active ingredient, since I was buying so much of it!)

Nothing worked for me except Nexium so eventually they had to put me on it. It was night and day.

@marionberry: Yeah, I know. I guess I refuse to comply. Haha. With the hyperemesis, I only would take the pills that I *had* to take. This heartburn/indigestion is a new pregnancy symptom for me. Guess, I'll have to start taking it daily.

Tums! I had them on me at all times and on my bedside table. Near the end I had to basically sleep sitting up because the heartburn was so bad, ugh.

With my first I took Prilosec daily. With my second, that didn't even cut it, and I had to move up to pantoprazole.

Daily Rx Zantac & chewable antacid when it's really bad. I don't like taking drugs, but my heartburn was really unpleasant & I also woke up at night with it. The label says don't breast feed while on it, so when I'm out I won't be refilling.

It was so bad yesterday and I just pushed through the work day. (DH did offer to drive into the city to drop the meds off, but I told him not to worry.) DH got me Tums so I was able to take it when I got home from work. They gave me some relief. It felt so good.
Today, I'm fine. I was able to sleep last night and now no sign of it. I really don't want to take any pills, if I don't have to. (The thought of taking pills actually makes me gag.)
So I'm going to make sure I have Tums in my purse if it starts to flare up again.
I have no idea what I ate to make it so unbearable yesterday. Or was it something that the babies were doing?
Well, now I'm prepared and ready with Tums, if it happens again.

@SweetiePie: My sister said Tums did nothing for her.

@bluestriped bee: so funny, they really helped my sister
I did occasionally find that they took the edge off. But they also started to make my stomach turn because I had been taking them so often. I still have a hard time getting them down.
I also had the chewy alkaseltzer things ( it's calcium carbonate as well but alkaseltzer brand). They were more tolerable and taste like starburst

My GP and OB both recommended I stop taking Prilosec and switch to Prevacid because it is a little safer for pregnancy. I have always had reflux and it got way worse during pregnancy.

@SweetiePie: same, I've been taking tums at night for about a week and all they do is leave a disgusting chalky orange flavour in my mouth moved on to zantax 12 hr last night and felt so much better, woke up this morning and didn't throw up orange stomach acids whoo hoo.
