I'm a prep person and I didn't want THAT much gender neutral stuff. Knowing the sex really helped me bond with the baby. I know I'm not helping, but there are great advantages to being able to know.

I was a Team Green drop out!!!

@anonysquire: I think people are going to give you stuff whether you like it or not... and I thought knowing the sex might help you with your hoarding tendencies, since you could narrow it down to just one gender of clothes.

You can always pretend to be team green and keep the secret between you and your so!

Havung my husband annouce to me that we had a daughter moments after she was born was the best thing ever and SO SO SO SO SO worth the wait. He had originally wanted to find out but now that we've done it he wants to be team green for all future pregnancies because it was so awesome.

We were team green and loved it. That said, when she was born and the placed her on my chest, neither of us thought to look at first. It probably took a minute before the nurse was like, you don't even know what it is! Dad, take a look!

Totally selfish bonus- we got mostly gear gifts, not clothing, then after she was born people sent us girl clothes anyway

Team Green is the BEST!!!! So much fun that moment when you've finnally delivered that baby and they say "It's a XXX" also, it was a super awesome special moment for DH to walk in to the waiting room full of our family and say intorduce our daughter and her name to all the expecting family members.

Pro team green! just like @lovehoneybee: said, that was the best part about labor - having hubs yell out "it's a boy!!". i also found all the guessing super fun during the second half of my pregnancy - everyone guessing what it is, telling the old wives tales, etc. I also loved how the big announcement was fun for DH - after me getting all the attention for 9 months, he got to have the big "it's a boy" moment to our families. I was happy to give that to him

To be a little more reflective, I think that not knowing actually helped me focus a bit more on the little miracle I was growing and NOT focus so much on the "stuff".

We found out and I will do it again with the next pregnancy. I still remember the moment when she told us that it was a girl. I still got general neutral gear but I am not a fan of the very little general neutral clothes out there. There isn't much and it is ducks. I needed to know to feel prepped for baby. We kept her name a secret so that made their some mystery for people until she was born.

@anonysquire: stay strong!! I'm scared that I'll want to know once we're in there too, but I so want to stay TG!! Don't cave!

@anonysquire: LOL! Agreed, it would be damn near impossible to not look at it, so I don't blame you!

@sheskrafty: OMG so true. My MIL even said this time, very sweetl mind you, "You know it makes it easier for people to buy you gifts if they know what you're having". HA! Oh well!

Stay Team Green!! You can do it!

We LOVE being team green!!! It was awesome for our baby shower, too. People really stuck to the registry. I just know that I'll want the extra motivation the day our baby is born.

YOU CAN DO IT!!! OR, you could have the tech seal it in an envelope for you ... then, you two could talk about it longer, and really decide if you want to know before baby is born. We ALMOST did that, but ultimately decided we really wanted to be surprised.

Depending on the day I swing both ways, so I am LOL'ing at your having your u/s in less than two hours. Take the pressure off. If gender is clear, have the tech write it down and put it in an envelope for you for later.

We found out with #1. I don't want to (but will) find out with #2. We got slammed (beyond slammed) with girl clothes. So much so that I want another girl to feel like I actually used these clothes, some we went through SO quickly. We didn't really receive any gender specific gear, it was just clothes -everything else will be good for a boy or girl.

I don't think it will look silly if you back down, do what you want (that won't drive you crazy, lol).

The L&D part of "it's a boy" or "it's a girl" I tear up just thinking of that moment, but the pros of knowing outweighed that moment and I wanted to feel prepared for having whatever gender we were having with #1. Not stuff prepared, mentally prepared too!! I don't want to find out with #2, but know if it's a boy I will need to mentally prepare for that (now psyched out if it was a boy, I feel like I'd not know what to do) and of course....clothes.....I skimmed through DD's stuff and maybe 5 items I could swipe for a boy.

GOOD LUCK! Healthy babes is #1, but this part is pretty dang exciting too!!

TG was SO MUCH FUN! My fav parts:

We received lots of practical gifts at my shower rather than 100000 newborn pink/blue outfits (though we received plenty of pink clothes after she was born!)

The anticipation was SO exciting and my husband and I spent hours talking about whether she would be a boy or a girl.

Having my husband say "it's a girl!!" when she came out is hands down the best memory of my life.

Hearing my family's reaction (my husband went out into the waiting room with a pink onesie and held it up..I could hear them screaming and cheering) was amazing. Our family members said it was the best part of the day and it even convinced my SIL to go TG (she was so mad throughout our pregnancy that we didn't find out, but she said it was totally worth it !)

People didn't bug us as much to reveal the name(s) beforehand

It was fun driving everyone bananas!

The 20 week ultrasound was really tough for me too, especially bc my BFF found out the week before what she was having and I wanted to know too. I wavered and wavered. After it was all over though it was very easy because there were no more opportunities to find out and we were in the home stretch!

I was Team Green, and I loved it! We got less baby clothes, but it just gave me an excuse to shop. I found it fun to find cool stuff that was gender neutral since it's so hard to find.

In my opinion, it made me focus more on how a baby was going to change our lives, about who I wanted to be as a mother rather than "I'm having a son" or "I'm having a daughter." I'm sure you can think about these things when you know, but for me it took the focus away from my own ideas about gender and refocused them to be about the baby and about who I wanted our child to be as a person.

The only hard thing was people's commentary. In this day and age I might as well tell people I'm going to do something horrible to my child. This also came from some friends, which was hurtful at times. I find it all rather funny given that for most of history of the world people didn't know.

P.S. I had a lot of ultrasounds due to being apparently high risk and I would introduce myself and immediately say "I'm not finding out the sex of my baby. Please don't let me know. Thank you." That usually worked. Good luck!

P.P.S. Also everyone thought I was having a boy and when we had a girl, I loved it even more. I love the fact that my daughter proved everyone wrong!

Another Team Green here. I agree with everything that has been said above regarding limiting the unneccessary, gender specific gifts {which sometimes tend to be things that you would NEVER pick yourself}, the awesome announcement moment, and the general excitement of it all.

Full disclosure: we found out the gender with our first, and baby #2 was the green experience. I'm an ultra planner, and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

@Vegmama: we did that! I took a folded note card that read, "Please circle one" and had boy and girl listed. The ultrasound tech circled one and added another ultrasound image in the envelope and sealed it. I wanted to have it just in case, but didn't end up opening it until HE was born!
