I just... Did it. We transitioned a little later, I think around 7 months.
You can maybe try sleep sack or zipadeezip? We just ripped off the bandaid and I was expecting the worse but she actually did great!

@snowjewelz: I have a love to dream sleep sack I was going to use for transition bc he likes to have access to his hands. did your lo roll over a lot once you transitioned or did she stay on her back? J always rolls to his belly when he's not in the magic suit but can't get back to his back and gets frustrated

I think its probably going to be a painful few nights, but I would just practice rolling from belly to back and vice versa during the day so he gets more comfortable with it.

@littleredhairedgrl: We did it this week with our 5 month old. It was surprisingly a non issue. He didn't sleep any differently in the sleep sack than he did in the Merlin.

@littleredhairedgrl: Oh yeah DD is a mover; but she'll sleep on her stomach or back. Yeah, DD never liked not having her hands... She doesn't even like sleep sacks b/c it restricts her leg movements haha! I think maybe he just doesn't realize he can sleep on his stomach... I'd let him try!

We just did it. We had a week or two of her rolling to her belly and then getting "stuck" - she knew how to roll back but couldn't seem to remember in the middle of the night. She'd scream and we'd have to go flip her. Eventually she got comfortable and now she sleeps on her back, belly, side, every way!

My little buddy loves his zipadee zip. It does cover the hands and feet but he sucks on his hands through the fabric. They are little expensive but he loves it and it helped us get out of the merlin suit.

@snowjewelz: yeah that's what I'm thinking too! maybe I'll wait a little longer. not sure if I'm ready lol
@Dahlia: J will prob do the same thing. he's a pretty easy baby so hopefully it'll just be a few rough nights and then back to normal

@littleredhairedgrl: Yeah I literally waited till the last possible second haha!

We just did it cold turkey when we transitioned out of the Merlin and it was really fine.

We went to the zipadeezip and it went fine! He is still sleeping in them, at 20 months!

I just did it last night cold turkey and I'm sure it was a fluke, but my 4.5 month old actually slept better without it! We'll see how tonight goes...

We switched from the merlin sleep suit into zipadee zips. No issues here.
It was a bit scary when DD would get from her back to her stomach and get stuck on her stomach. I had to keep flipping her over to her back. The merlin sleep suit did keep her on her back. She did learn to get back on her side or back to sleep.

We might be an anomaly, but...we just went straight from the Merlin suit to pajamas. A zipadeezip or equivalent would have ticked her off because she's a finger-sucker, so having the movement without getting to have the actual fingers would've been an issue.
Believe it or not, it went okay. She sleeps on her tummy 95% of the time now!
