How old is your baby? If less than 3 months, I would just bring the Moby if I had to pick one. Having that for naps was so important when we were traveling. Older than 3 months, I would do both. It is worth it to know that you have somewhere for baby to nap. They don't take up THAT much room.

@JoJoGirl: ooh, I would just go with the stokke then probably...LL stopped sleeping in the wrap around 5/6 months and really didn't like to be worn in it anymore...we switched to an Ergo about that time.

Is she tiny?! I can't imagine having used the Moby at 7 months. With that being said, they don't take up that much room! I would totally take it, no questions asked.

@Mrs. Lion: I'm. It sure...I suppose. The discussion was in relation to both turbulence (which isn't really a factor on a train), but also other potential incidents.

I don't know how much time you have, but a lot of moms recommend those mesh ring slings, which are light and also can be used in the pool/water.

WRT to the baby being strapped to you on the plane, the issue (as I understand it) is the force of your body will literally crush your child in a forward impact as you bend over at the waist. Supposedly, your child is safer unbuckled as a projectile, but take that advice with a grain of salt (my son has flown as a lap child, but after I learned this, he gets a seat of his own). I don't think any airline follows a standard procedure, so this is kind of subject to the rules of each particular airline.

I would go with the Strokke. I took both the Moby wrap and the Ergo on a flight once and the Moby took up so much room!! I never used it, either. I ended up just using the Ergo. She was 3 months at the time.. I think I would take the more structured carrier and hope she falls asleep if she is tired enough. Mine always seems to, if she gets to that point of sleepiness.

I, too had to detach my sleeping baby (and other times toddler) from my carrier when I was seated in the plane. It really all depends on the flight attendants.

I voted to bring one since LO isn't napping in moby anyways.

@JoJoGirl: I'm following this since I'll be in a similar situation next month. I totaly understand the fear of not having the moby though-- for the first few months that was the ONLY way to get C to sleep sometimes. I have two borrowed ones now and always keep one in the stroller just in case, even though we haven't used it in a while. She likes our Beco carrier but has never slept in it the way she used to sleep in the Moby, but like your LO, she hasn't actually napped in it in a while.

Would you have room in your suitcase to bring it, just in case, but not have it with you on the plane? That way if the way there sucks, you could take it for the way home?

As far as on the plane, I also heard that they make you unbuckle them so it would be easier for a flight attendant or emergency personnel to grab the baby if something happened to you. I'm planning to wear C in the airport next month, and probably have her sleep in my lap on the travel boppy I got.

You should also check if there are any open seats on the plane and see if you can sit next to one, but I feel that's unlikely with how packed planes are these days.
