Also known as polyhydramnios. Has anyone else experienced this? I am due tomorrow and today at my check up I had a ultrasound done that showed my amniotic fluid was very high (28cm) I am going in Friday morning to be induced. Hard not to worry....

Yes, DW had this starting around 20 ish weeks I believe. Had an extra ultrasound and it all was fine, they never determined the cause. She did have premature labour and delivered at 35 weeks but I don't think it was related. I remember stressing out about as well but all was fine.

My husband's cousin had this. She was gigantic, you would have thought there were triplets in there. So, she did have some recovery issues because her skin was so stretched. But, her baby was totally healthy and full term with no complications during the pregnancy or delivery!

I had it. They discovered it at my 20 week ultrasound. I wound up having to go biweekly for u/s and stress tests but everything was fine. Delivered at 39 weeks with a planned c-section (though the fluid was a contributing factor for planning the c-section) and recovery was completely normal and similar to that with my first. All in all, it wound up not being a big deal.

I had polyhydraminos. My level when initially caught was 27 cm, but my MFM wasn't concerned at that level as 25 cm is the threshold for what is considered borderline high. My fluid levels did continue to increase, and my largest measurement was 43 cm. Ultimately, there was a cause for my polyhydraminos, but this was suspected due to the extreme severity and an abnormal finding on an ultrasound. I hesitated to answer this, as I don't want to cause you any anxiety, but I want to tell you my case was a total outlier. Over 50% of cases are unexplained, and most other cases are due to GD. You aren't too far from the level of what is considered borderline high, so stastically, you are probably one of those random unexplained cases, especially since it was found so late in your pregnancy. Try not to stress over it (I know this is hard!), and FWIW, my DD is now 5 months and we are both doing just fine now

I had this, found late in pregnancy (maybe 38 wks?). I went for 2x weekly stress tests & my Dr told me not to wait once my water broke to come to the hospital, I think she said with extra fluid the cord could prolapse & cause trouble for baby. But all went well & no idea what the cause was. Good luck, mama!

My sister-in-law had this, no idea what her level was though. She was induced about a week early because of it, and had a long labor, but perfectly healthy baby. He's one now.

My cousin had this - it happened very early with her and she was on bed-rest then induced about 8/10 weeks early - but both her and the baby did great, and they're both totally fine.

I was monitored for excess fluid in the third trimester. I don't remember which weeks exactly. I went for weekly ultrasounds at the MFM doctor, in addition to my weekly OB appointments. In my case, it resolved on its own a few weeks before delivery.
I did have a large baby in addition to the extra fluid. In hindsight, my doctor said those could have been signs of gestational diabetes, but I passed 2 glucose tests just fine. They gave me one early on in the pregnancy due to family history and then again at the normal timeframe, and I passed both.
I did develop pre-eclampsia at 39 weeks an ended up eventually needing a c-section, but I don't think that's related to the excess fluid. The fluid issue had resolved by then.
My daughter turned out perfectly fine though, despite everything. And after I recovered from surgery, so did I.
