I use FN. it is readily available at our grocery store and Walmart and target. I'm surprised you'd have to Oder it.

@allison: Oh yea I know. It's so much easier to have it show up at my door in two days. Otherwise I usually have to wait a week to find time to go.

I have always used Ivory bar soap for my liquid detergent. Been doing it for almost 5 years now? It's not really a pain to store but we always live in a house.

@allison: LOL I use a 5 gallon Lowes/Home Depot tub to mix it. And when we started I saved a old liquid laundry detergent bottle. I use a plastic measuring cup solely for dispensing the liquid from the 5 g tub into my detergent bottle. At our old house we had a small narrow closet just wide enough for the tub next to the w/d and that's where the tub stayed. In our current home the tub stays in the basement.

I've always been a liquid vs powder fan though!

@allison: btw why do you use those two soaps? Is it just because the recipe you found calls for that?

Hey, sorry... One more thing. I just asked my husband, who actually is the laundry person in our house. When he has grated Zote he just combines it with room temp water and leaves it in the bottle to dissolve, shaking once in awhile. It's not totally smooth when you put it in the machine, but we've never had soap flakes on our clothes or anything! So I ink you should try grating it and see what happens in a cold wash. I think you will be ok.

@allison: I mean rally, if you already have it, what's the worst that could happen? If you have some soap stuck to stuff you can always rewash on a higher temp and get it out, right? Maybe try washing something that's not too precious....
